Like everyone else with wheel questions, I am trying to figure out if this is doable or not before I buy these wheels. Here are my specs.
- 74 std stock front beam
- lowered spindles with 4-1/2" wide stock rims (pictured)
- rear lowered 1 outer notch
- rear 5-1/2" wide stock rims (pictured)
I'm not too worried about the rims sticking out from the fenders, I just don't want any rubbing to occur. Tires aren't an issue. If I need to replace tires to make em work, that's fine. Really don't want to narrow my front beam either, so if this won't work...so be it. Thanks for any input!
According to CIP, the 8 spoke rims have a 4.6" backspace.

I think the 8 spokes will fit without rubbing as they are pretty similar to your present wheels. If you want to be certain/lower it/run bigger tires etc 2.0 liter wheels would be a better choice. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Honestly I don't see anything wrong with the wheels you've got right now.
With the drop spindles up front a 5.5 8 spoke will stick out pretty far . . . . . IMO
You could put one of your rears on the front to get an idea how far. |

It's close, but it'll rub the fender. Backspacing isnt the prob.
8 spokes dont work well with stock width beams and drop spindles.
The tires will rub the fenders lips with when turning, getting worse with a passenger.
As long as it doesn't go any lower you may be able to... Hard to say.
I've seen them rub too many times.
I think the 8 spokes would look great though. _________________ ✠Miklo✠

You don't want to run too short of a tire. Less wheel gap in the fender looks best.
Meaning, If you cant lower the front, don't get smaller tires.
Depending on what tires used, it may rub like I mentioned above...
8 spokes don't work well with drop spindles and a stock beam.
They do look great on there btw. _________________ ✠Miklo✠

Is the only issue with running a short tire the gap between wheel and fender? If so, I can get as close as possible before running out and buying a narrowed beam.
Thanks....if I can get this guy on the road, they'll be worth the money I've put into it. IF I can get everything working. Right now I've got some expensive lipstick on a pig. _________________ My 74 std bug rebuild (in progress)

Yes, just a gap. Some smaller tires may work out.
I hear ya man, but itll worth it once your cruising around. _________________ ✠Miklo✠

I'm gonna set up an appointment with the tire place and have a guy swap out different tires to see what will work. I need to get the thing running first. Having carb probs I'm working out now. Hopefully it'll be on the road soon. I'll shoot back some pics when it gets new rubber.
Thanks for the info...really appreciate it! _________________ My 74 std bug rebuild (in progress)
