Just had a full vert window frames set rechromed
Here in France, it costs 400 € (500 $ ) for :
- dechroming
- polishing
- plating
- rechroming
Interested too for convertible seals feedbacks... |
Thanks "Soldeli" for letting us know what it cost for the re-chrome job in France! It'll be interesting to hear what that job costs here in the States, perhaps Tom will update this when he get's his California shop bill? I'll eventually be doing it on my '57 Kab somewhere here in the Midwest...

Bill, belated reply, last year it had cost me $400.00 to have my frames rechromed.
That was here in LALA land.
Again sorry for late response

Here is a 56 vert we are finishing the pan off resto. This is a -1- vin 56 that was assembled in late 1955. One sweet car.

Looks like that original special order paint car from earlier in the thread. Were you able to get the name of the color from the rear firewall?

Yes it is, it appears Inca red was the original color. _________________ 54 Bug

Been putting in some hours on the vert and got tired of the fluff that kept coming out of the engine compartment side area. The passenger side did not have the triangle pillow but had 10 or more square fiber pads stuffed all the way up. The driver side did have the pillow (somewhat smaller than a sedan) made of what looks like euro seat material.
I thought this pattern was early oval but could not find the classified with the repro pattern I recognized. The color looks blue/grey but is pretty dirty. Anyone know where the fiber material is used? Top padding? I would like to replace with something as close as possible and will be sewing up some vert specific pillows. I was hoping to use some of the repro material remnants if I could find some.
One other thing that made me think, all of the export cars Ive pulled the pillows out of used US spec seat material (vinyl). Did domestic delivered cars use the cotton material or just whatever they had?
EDIT:
I found the vendor, looks like it is euro standard only material

A friend is restoring a 54 iris blue oval vert. He is looking for the original or as close as possible to original interior material. The dark blue skai.
Does anyone here have a lead on where to get this? We weren’t expecting this, but it’s proving to be the proverbial needle in the haystack. Thanks for your help.
Cheers, Chris |

Agree they do appear slender but I’d guess they’re same size as stock , it would be great if someone reproduced the Vert visors at a reasonable price |

I'm wondering if any of you Kab owners can share a tip on an issue I'll have once I get to wiring up my Kabriolett.
On my '57 LHD USA spec Kabriolet project, the main wiring harness enters the right side heater channel thru a hole/tunnel low down in the front right side quarter panel and then passes rearward thru a accordion style foil/paper hose inside and through the heater channel/body stiffener and exits back into the rear seat area thru a hole/tunnel near the floor near the rear quarter panel.
When I bought my Kab back in the 1990's it was all apart, body work finished in primer (not yet finish painted), pan was separated from the body and all the removed parts were packed in boxes by the PO. He pulled the wiring harness out of the heater channel and DID NOT tie a guide wire/rope the the old original wiring harness before pulling the harness out to use to pull a new harness back thru. We dropped the body onto the chassis to get it home, then tucked it away in the back corner of my garage and buried it in parts so it's hard to get to it now. But it's day is about to come!
I'm wondering if any of you other Kab owners faced this particular situation and how you tackled fishing a wire thru and then tying a new wiring harness on to the end to pull it through that tunnel? If so could you share your methods, tools and tips as one of these days, hopefully soon, I'll be facing this task. I'm hoping that it easier than I image it is... Thinking of this shit keeps me up at night... Thanks!

Bill, I know exactly what your worries are. Why they used that paper tube is beyond me.
A few questions.
1. Are support channels in good shape? If they need replacing that is perfect opportunity.to install harness.
2. Perhaps run an electrician wiring snake thru attached to 1/4 " soap soaked rope. (say
the 3 times)to attach harness to, along with a patient friend at either end, both ends look like hard to reach spots! Patients and perseverance...and luck. It looks like a very difficult task.
If anyone else has suggestions please sound off.
