Thanks KGCoupe! I won best in class, and a bunch of raffle items. A Hot VWs t-shirt, a lot of T2 reflectors and lenses, a brand new EMPI 34 PICT 3 carburetor, and a chrome Pegasus thingy. Met a bunch of awesome people and had a blast.

Received my Joe Blow supercharger intake/pulley kit today. Have most of what I need to get the build started. Still waiting on my Weber DCOE chokes. Have to re-jet and modify a few things on the carburetor to get it to their baseline setup. Can't wait to get started.

Nice!!! I am also thinking about the JoeBlow Carb Kit because it seems to be a plug and play solution. Lets see if this is the case....
Keep us up to date with all the details! |

Will do. Still waiting on the choke venturis. Then I will be ready to year down and build up. Hoping I don't have to drop the engine. We'll see how it goes. _________________ My 70 beetle was totaled Now to build the Ghia I always wanted. Rest in peace Ruby, I will miss you. Hello <insert Ghia name here>! |

Motortrend channel. Full Custom Garage, love that show. Watch it all the time. Haven't seen him build a blown VW engine. Tried finding it on YouTube, no dice. Finished most of the jetting and installed the throttle wheel and intake manifold on the Weber DCOE 40. Didn't realize that the pump jets require new aluminum washers. Got those on order. Replaced the AMR500 pulley with the 4PK pulley supplied with the Joeblow kit. Weather is still too hot to assemble everything... Hopefully it will cool off soon.

Chokes came in from Europe (can't believe I can't find parts for these in the US). Installed them, went on ahead and installed the air filter... This thing is a beast. Started installing and wiring up the electric fuel pump too. Wish I would have just installed one when the tank was out... Would have been way easier.

Update. Been working on side projects prior to the supercharger going in. Decided to reroute my breather tube into a breather box. It was simply running through the normal exit hole through the shroud. Eventually will add valve cover breather tubes, but don't think it's necessary at the moment.
Also, installed the fuel pump. Still need to wire it up behind the dash. Have the relay setup and ready to go.
Also, made a mounting bracket and installed the CB Black Box.

xzener-Question, shouldn't the fuel run out of the tank through the filter first and then through the pump? This is how mine is mounted and you have yours the opposite. I looked at numerous pics before installing mine, so that's why I ask.
Clarify please before I do final connections as I don't want things flowing incorrectly.

You are correct... Fuel filter then pump. Mine isn't hooked up yet, it's just sitting there waiting. _________________ My 70 beetle was totaled Now to build the Ghia I always wanted. Rest in peace Ruby, I will miss you. Hello <insert Ghia name here>! |

Fuel injection pumps I’m familiar with usually have a strainer on the suction side and filter on the pressure side. My guess is so the pump doesn’t cavitate, but I realize this is a carb setup so maybe not apples to oranges. _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia |

We'll, not sure about pressure, but there will be a pre and post filter for the pump. Will have to keep that in consideration... May need to remove the filter that is mounted on the tranny. _________________ My 70 beetle was totaled Now to build the Ghia I always wanted. Rest in peace Ruby, I will miss you. That was a question I asked before and never got an answer. If I have the filter just outside the tank, before the pump, do I then need another mounted at the tranny? Or will the filter before the fuel pump be enough?

Ok, thanks. The picture was a little confusing, obviously trying to get the shot from underneath, so couldn't tell if the hoses were hooked up or not.

Filter before pump is fine. It protects the pump from fuel tank swarf getting into pump & causing damage. Second filter before carb/s is added insurance.
Belt-&-Suspenders approach...

My thoughts exactly. The cleaner the fuel the better. Plus, looking at some of these jets on the Weber DCOE 40, seems as though it could easily be gummed up with the slightest debris. _________________ My 70 beetle was totaled Now to build the Ghia I always wanted. So I got the Black Box dialed in for the most part. She drives very well, purrs like a kitten during idle. Relocated the BB under the back seat, was told it being close to the coil may induce interference. I think I'm about ready to drop the motor and install the blower kit. The daily temperature is almost cool enough to get started.
