Buckets welded in and seam sealed. Also coated inside the tube and bottom of the bucket with por15. Finally spayed epoxy on the bare metal.

Got an original armrest. Sanded out the scratches and polished the trim. I’m surprised how good it came out, there was some pretty deep scratches and dings. Sandblasted the metal pieces, powder coated them and plated the screws. Added some silicone to the foam where it had shrunk on the corners to get the shape back and to the low spots. It will get recovered when it is time to do the interior.

Beautiful job on every little detail. This thing will be amazing to see done. I'll be following for some inspiration. Has me thinking about how deep I want to get into mine. Keep it coming.

Thanks guys.

I got an original turn signal relay. Opened it up, cleaned the contacts and it’s working perfect now. Cleaned up the screw terminals and took some steel wool and wd40 to the back.

Inspirational! Love the attention to detail.

Is that zinc plating easy to do? Toxic? Thinking I might want to zinc some bolts.

It is pretty easy to do. The parts need to be stripped and clean. Bead blasting is best. It needs to be done in a ventilated area and the solution itself is very corrosive.

Your chassis looks really nice. I am currently working on mine trying to strip all the protective undercoating off. I see from your picture you were using a grinder. This is the same way I have been doing mine. One question is how did you get in all the right areas? Also is that POR-15 that you coated it with? I was talking about coating mine with it and someone here stated it may be better for me to paint or powder coat since my chassis has zero rust and that POR-15 may not stick to the surface of a non rusted chassis.

Yes I was using a grinder with a wire wheel. I only used It on the center tunnel area. The rest I sandblasted with a harbor freight pot blaster. I did coat it with por15. I have used Por15 for many years on lots of projects. I have used it on freshly sandblasted metal, rusty metal, already primed metal and with/without the metal prep. Never have had an issue with it adhering. I also topcoat it with spray paint when it is almost dry and still tacky. Painting or powder coating will result in a nicer finish though.

just curious I was looking at one of those harbor freight pressurized blasters to finish it off and help speed up the process on the hard to reach spots. about how many pounds of sand did you go through? and did you use sand, glassbead, alum oxide?

I actually used Black Diamond Medium Blasting Abrasive coal slag from tractor supply co. It is only $8.99 a bag. I believe I got 3 bags and only used 2. I set out tarps, collect it, run it through a strainer and reuse it.

oh nice I will look into that then. I plan to do the same thing with setting tarps in my front yard and blasting in the front yard. is that pretty much all you did ... no walls or anything around the blasting area just wide open area? was skeptical about loosing too much of the media with blasting outdoors without anything but a ground tarp. any extra info is appreciated

I have built an enclosure with tarps before but the media was so cheap that I didn’t take the extra time to make one. Just used a couple large tarps.
