I have a 2003 Mexibeetle and the brake lights are stuck on. It appears the brake light switch is stuck do to the lack of use (car sits a lot). Does anyone know if the brake light switch is the same as for a 68 Beetle? How to replace/fix? Any other suggestions/information would greatly be appreciated.

Replace BOTH brake light switches, on the master cylinder.

Pretty sure same switch (3-terminal) as 1968 Beetle.

Does the 2003 HAVE two brake light switches?

My 1984 only came with a single chamber master cylinder and one switch. I have changed it for a dual circuit, but it still has only one switch. It doesn't have any parking or brake warning lights at all, so I didn't see a point in wiring two switches.

Also, make sure one of the wires isn't just shorted to ground. If you disconnect the switches and the lights are still on, you have a shorted wire.
