The name of the movie is “The Quatermass Xperiment” Shot in B/W 1955
It is a science fiction cheap imitation of War of the Worlds B movie and I’ll often waste an hour or two watching some stuff like that. As it begins much to my enjoyment an early type 2 is featured but then watch what happens.
Looking good on their way to the alien crash site. Suddenly it becomes a 23 window bus.
Still looking believable he gets out and goes to the back
We are going to see that engine but wait
He’s in the radio compartment WTF I watched the rest of the movie and it was terrible too. |

Straight Time starring Dustin Hoffman 1978. In this scene Hoffman’s character Max Dembo beats the shit out his parole officer then handcuffs him to a fence on the freeway.

The Rundown, 2003. Seann William Scott (Dude, Where's my car) while down in the Amazon hides behind a Yellow Ghia during the shoot out near the end of the movie. It looses all its glass and gets a few bullet holes to boot. |
I just watched this movie Saturday on HBO... there was also a red bug that ends up on it's side and an orange bay window in the same shoot out scene. Movie wasn't bad either... |
I watched The Rundown again last night and saw the red bug (on it's side) and lots of shots of the orange bay which survies the big shoot out. We both forgot to say that there were also a couple of rail buggies in this movie too. I guess they count as VWs, right? |

Someone mentioned a Type 3 getting shot up in "Rundown", but there was lots of VW destruction in that film. A Ghia gets shot up, Rails blown apart , Bay bus smashed up. |

BMW recently made a short tribute video for the Isetta microcar which remarkably smuggled a total of 9 (!) people from East Berlin into West Berlin- one at a time- across the Iron Curtain.
Link
You can briefly see an anthracite (?) grey Notchback parked along the street in West Berlin.
Most likely the same car was used a few seconds later, parked on the sidewalk at the border. This shot is looking out from the Isetta as it drives past. You don't see the front of the Notch.
Near the end of the video, you can see the actual car parked in a building on display. When I worked at the VW factory in Wolfsburg in the early 1980's, I sometimes drove to West Berlin to visit a friend. We went to Checkpoint Charlie at the East/West border crossing. This same Isetta was on display at the Museum at Checkpoint Charlie. The tiny hiding space behind the seat was exposed. IIRC, the owner installed a much smaller fuel tank to gain some space.
Isetta sounds like ee-ZETTA when pronounced in German. In English most people pronounce it eye-SETTA. It's the diminutive form of Iso, the name of the Italian company which first designed it. Renzo Rivolta was the founder. You've heard of the Iso Rivolta high performance sports sedan from the early 1960's? Yep, same lineage. |
