This orange FB is clearly a Calif car ,has the EGR and the relay yet is has an extra port on the oil bath none I ever saw had this and it seems added on looks like plastic . It has the dual vacuum can on the dist with the lines running to the left so it must have the three port valve some had. It has the hoses the the heads for the PCV system yet the left side didn't run in back of the engine it ran across the back behind the IAD. It still has the pick up ring to the diagnostic plug to check the timing from #1 plug wire.
I have a 73 calif car that had the EGR it was all there. The only difference was the dual advance with the three way valve yet the oil bath was the same didn't have that extra port on the left and I can't see where the hose runs , that looks added on. Only 72 sold in Calif had the EGR and all 73's had it.
The reason I bring up the hose from the left head across the rear is the head port is on the front on the left side never saw one routed like this Mine goes across the front behind the IAD and mine was the original red hose never touched and that extra port on the oil bath , can't imagine what that is supposed to do. It's not part of the PCV system and not part of the EGR and not part of the charcoal evap. Wonder if this was added as a breather vent and the PCV is missing. The only difference in a 72 and 73 Calif was the dual distributor vacuum can and the added three port valve which mounts on the MPS plate along with the EGR relay. The silver relay you can see on the left where the MPS is hidden |
Is it possible that it's had it's heads off, and someone installed them on the wrong sides. Yes. I've seen that before, complete with the CHT sensor installed above #1 cylinder. You spend any length of time on here, and you'll see all sorts of stuff. And it is a 72 Fastback. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

It sold for $2900, which was more than I wanted to spend. It's a well done conversion, with very little rust.
The same auction also had a solid, straight white/red interior 1965 "N" Squareback, which sold for about the same price. |

It's quite nice. The repaint is a bit off color/yellowish (maybe they were going for the happy meal toy look?) and the front seats had been recovered with some boat seat looking upholstery, and had had a gas heater that was removed. But - it still had what looked to be original interior panels and rear seat in good shape, single side draft carbureted engine, and all the 'N' unique pieces. All-in-all - it's a very solid, complete, rare car that the new owner should be proud to have.

Personally, those fog/driving lights, the hood pull handel, the accelerator pedal cover, vent trim front/back, door handle scratch guards, door window top edge covers (for T3) and maybe clear rear taillights are in the "friend" zone as far as wanting an accessorized relationship with. _________________

So you "want them but can't have them" sort of thing? What's the pedal cover? |

I put them in the friend zone My way of saying I don't much care for them.

Hello Erik, I almost missed it myself, The most important detail
FROM THE SAMBA AD
"The master craftsman and owner of Classic Auto Rewind, Greg Armendariz, is an award-winning vintage Volkswagen restoration specialist and artist. He is the son and nephew of engineers and designers. This, he claims, is why fastidious attention to detail runs in his blood. When rebuilding a classic Volkswagen, Greg meticulously assembles the vehicles using OEM parts that he orders from suppliers all over the globe. For Greg, restoring Volkswagens is much more than hunting down the perfect hardware and accessories, though. He views each project as a piece of art, which is evident when viewing one of his restorations such as our Type 34 Coupe. His artistry dovetails perfectly with his attention to detail. He describes the cars he takes on as “almost living, breathing things.” His tenacity and artistry embody one overarching desire: For viewers to see his Volkswagens as the original designers intended them to be seen."
That alone raises the price to 69K _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.

Here is another zero detail car, probably a good price. I don't even know the year. Don't even know what the front or inside looks like. Rear hatch looks clean though.
What I am curious about is the engine. It looks different than mine, the intake arrangement and the throttle linkage. |

It's not clear what engine you are getting. Ad states its a 1500 removed earlier.
No year given. The body is at least a late '71, which were all 1600 in the US, but this is a RHD British car, apparently. |

I would love to see an external link to 100+ pics of this car.
I had to find something wrong so...
It looks like the ignition switch cover on the left side is missing.
There are some other things too _________________ How to Post Photos

I thyink it's stock but I could be wrong. It's all late model carb setup, not something the US got (not sure up about up north) _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

What's throwing you off is the later 3 piece factory air cleaner, and bus style carb linkage. Otherwise it's the same non-FI engine that normally came in type 3s. Europe got to keep carbs, with FI as an option. You could even get a single carb in a late type 3. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
