Everything this community has suggested for my 69 AS Ghia has been dead-on and it’s running so well now.
I realized that a rattling noise in the fan shroud is the accelerator cable guide tube. As I work the accelerator, the tube works it’s way out of the shroud toward the rear of the car. The further it comes out, the worse the noise.
I have a replacement tube on hand. I need to know the correct way to secure the tube in the shroud once I slide it through. It seems like it will just slide in and out of there almost freely.

Well like the steel fuel line tube passing thru the front tin, there should be a rubber grommet. These grommets keep the metal tubes from getting cut by the hole edges in the front tin. Plus for the accelerator tube the grommet keeps the tube from sliding back and forth. Additionally like to put a fender washer and hose clamp on the tube, up against the front of the fan shroud to doubly keep it from moving.
You can look up parts like this and find parts you did not even know about for your VW in the VW dealer parts manuals, like the accelerator bowden tube. The Beetle parts manual is perfect for the engine and transaxle mechanicals for your Ghia since both used almost all the same parts. Lots of super cool exploded diagrams. Do use the "Full Index", it is a lot easier to navigate thru.

Thru the "Upcoming" button at the top of that webpage, you can access that parts manual. Do take a good look thru the rest of the info on that webpage also. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Yes, rubbers help.
I put a little hose clamp on the back to prevent movement. _________________ Volkswagen!
