Hello everyone.
I have a 71 super beetle. My turn signals have not been working since I got the car seven weeks ago. I have A new emergency flasher and it appears to be wired correctly according to what I have researched.
With the ignition key OFF I get nothing from the emergency flashers when I pull the knoB out.
With the ignition key ON and the emergency flasher knob pulled out only I get the indicator light on the dash. But as soon as I push the knob in it shorts the fuse.
Any ideas on why that would be?
I know that it’s shorting somewhere. But I would expect it to blow the fuse when I pull out on the switch knob rather than push in on the switch knob.

Thank you for any help!

I had the same issues with a JBugs Hazard switch. Bought a used one made by VW. All good!

The emergency flasher knob/shaft does have different lengths. I discovered that when my signals would not work. Had to source out the correct length for my 72 type 1. Found it at a swap meet.

Give this thread a read. It talks about a problem with a new E-Flasher switch blowing fuses. Sounds like you have a similar problem. In the below case it was a design problem with the aftermarket switch.
