Main Seal Leak After Changing Crank Pulley

I recently removed the VW 6 5/8” diameter crank pulley that was on my 1967 Beetle’s 1600 engine and replaced it with an original ‘67 only crank pulley which measures 7” in diameter.

Upon completion of the pulley project, the main oil seal is now leaking. A new main seal and o ring were installed by a local shop about 3 months or 1,000 miles ago, and it had been bone dry until I swapped the pulleys.

I’m wondering if swapping the pulleys may have changed the crankshaft endplay and caused the main seal to leak?
