Finally found an exhaust for it!
After 3 days of trying to get it going, blood, swearing, blisters from trying to crank start it, trying all the tricks in the book, I switched the leads 180 and away it went!

Sounds like dream!
That exhaust tip is the wrong one for your 55.
The long tips where used only in 1959/1960 for the model with the newer style bumpers.

It’s deceiving in the vid, that is a short one. I have a long one on my bug.
It runs smooth so far, ran it through 2ltrs of fuel at revs to check everything and no hiccups! Can’t complain there. Even the air control ring works well! _________________ shiny paint doesnt make it worth any more |

Oh, is that how you remember it..... . .
Sounds great. To funny about the plug wires... i think everyone has been caught by that one.
Volkswouter, you realize that now he will have to find the right one. |

Thanks for the positive feedback from everyone. I’m not an engine builder or mechanic, so I constantly doubt myself and what I do frequently, overthink things and stress about what I’ve done at times.
But it’s always nice to have good feedback with wins. I ran it at revs for around an hour, tested the heater boxes, the air ring, rev range, any leaks. So far it’s a winner!
Apart from its running a pertronix and the wrong coil. For some reason the original dizzy and the te6a3 won’t play together so I need to figure that out to make it more correct. _________________ shiny paint doesnt make it worth any more |

Got a present in the mail. This bus didn’t come with them on it, but I do like them. Undecided wether to run them or not tho.
With some shine
The hole it’s sitting in is from an added electrical socket. _________________ shiny paint doesnt make it worth any more |

Aussie spec I prefer to call it. Haha.
Thats true, but then it’s only a small hole, and I don’t trust drivers here so any sort of safety equipment to enhance will also help. I’ve been trolling for pics of pgsg buses with them on it to see what they look like. _________________ shiny paint doesnt make it worth any more |

I have a semaphore 55 also and have thought about adding additional reflectors. As mentioned, I didn't want to Americanize the look of my bus. I have come to the conclusion that if I add them I won't put them in the stock location so as to not look like an attempt at melding the two markets. Reflectors with flat tail lights just always look wrong to me. _________________ Oil Capital Air Cooled

Still undecided about the reflectors so they will sit tight for now...
The mirror arm was wrong, not sure why. So I decided to remove it.
Eucalyptus oil Actually works really well!!! I pulled it out by hand after soaking it for 3days. Thanks Gunther!
Prior to that weeks ago I’d had heat/pressure/clamps, shock hammer, Lanolin, wd40.... wouldn’t budge. Then along came eucalyptus... wow.
And reassessing the work that needs to be done, I’ve decided to remove the whole door. The bottoms need slight work so why not do it the easy way with the doors off. All the screws were seized in there, no heat, lube or impact drive would budge them. So out came the drills. Helped having the right tools for the job also..

Part of the passenger door has rusted out where the glass frame bolts through. So I’ve had an attempt at replicating the pressing to match the original one, using old floor steel, bashed it flat and had an attempt at it.
I Won’t say it, but may have nearly nailed it 1st go! Or close enough for my liking!
Old bit of floor from my old dc.
Even the screws sit flush like the originals.

A quick example of how to do the panel at home if anyone is interested an needs one made.
Cut out from whatever, bash it flat if need be.
Punch a recess with socket of choice in a block of wood
Slight punch the steel with the socket to get a rough outline, then give it a hammering on the woods recess to get the indent
Centre punch the center and drill it to size
Use a screw with the socket and compress in a vice.
Give it a tidy up in the wooden recess again if need be.
And done! With simple tools.

Little work done on it today.
Removed the rest of the screws from the pillars.
Finished the door section with the repair piece.
Just need to clean up the welds on that.
Doing a trial with the selector and hanger bracket. Repaired the original ones, but would still like some other ones as backups in case these ones don’t work too well.
Made a repair part for the hanger.
1st hole wasn’t good so tried again.
Repaired the selector rod.
M spring fits in it also, so hopefully will work. _________________ shiny paint doesnt make it worth any more |
