Although I read this book a couple of years ago when it came out it bears mentioning now because a former POTUS died. The book is The Residence: Inside the private world of the White House” by Kate Anderson. The book is careful not to take sides or be political in any way but the workers interviewed went all the way back to early 60s and Kennedy administration. Wife also liked it and since a few years have passed now it may be cheap and easy to find. I won’t give it away but there’s a big surprise as to who they liked best. Read it. Very Happy

The President is Missing by President Bill Clinton and bestselling novelist James Patterson. A spellbinding thriller of fiction about cyber terrorists.
It was enjoyable and had you on the edge of your seat a few times with a couple of twists and turns, but nothing mind blowing.

I very much enjoyed this book about a Centenarian who Forest Gump's his way through life.

Just now saw it is a movie I'll have to watch.

Like most movies, this one sucked and I don't recommend watching it, but definitely read the book.

I did finish reading The Lost City of Z by Dougles Preston. A modern day journalist researches and then searches for Percy Fawcett an Victorian era explorer who disappeared in the Amazon jungle looking for a lost ancient city of legends.
Not really an exciting read.

SPEARHEAD by Adam Makos: An American Tank Gunner, His enemy and a collision of lives in WW II

Great read of what it was like to be a tanker and work around the equipment. Also interesting to hear the same perspective on the German side.

Panzer tanks were transported by rail to close to the battle site because they would wear out their drivetrain in 60 miles of use. The book also contains other interesting facts about how the tanks were driven and maneuvered about the countryside, as well as the dread of being the first tank "Spearhead" in the battle formation.

The book centers around a tank battle in the center of Cologne, Germany. The German and American Commanders meet up in Cologne, years after the war.

Duplicity by Newt Gingrich. Fair thriller, terrorist trouble from Somalia. if you like Newt you can almost hear him talking as you read it.

“Dethroning the King” the hostile takeover of Anheuser-Busch an American icon

By Julie MacIntosh

Pretty good read regardless of which suds you like. Many factors come into play including global financial meltdown of 2008, along with greed and mismanagement. The perfect storm Sad

The Lost City of the Monkey God: A True Story by Douglas Preston.
I really enjoyed this true adventure story. It was made into a documentary by Nat Geo which I haven't seen yet.
How, with the use of modern technology, archeologists search the jungle by air and discover the lost city of the monkey god and how this discovery will effect the world today and in the future.

"Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Missing Shoelaces" by Donald J. Sobol.

An intriguing whodunit, Leroy Brown comes across a 5 year old crying on the local playground. His mother explains to the boy detective that someone stole the kid's shoelaces while he went to play in the sandbox, and pays the sleuth's required 25 cent fee to find them.
Usual suspects include the neighborhood bully Bugs Meany, but the story takes an intriguing twist as Sally Kimball, Encyclopedia's partner in crime-solving (and bodyguard) suddenly becomes a suspect as well.
A fairly brisk read at 8 pages, but a nice slow burn. Highly recommended.

Raisin’ Cain The wild and raucous story of Johnny Winter by Mary Lou Sullivan with forward by Johnny Winter.

Excellent if you like Blues and Rock and Roll. Set in late 50s, 60s Beaumont Texas you get a feel for what it was like growing up an albino in the segregated south. Along with his brother Edgar also an albino they found acceptance through music and began playing while still in grade school. 362 pages of small print covers him through 2010 and he died in 2014. Looking over his entire body of work this guy was busy. My favorite was and still is 1971 Johnny Winter and Live with Rick Derringer. Find it on YouTube Very Happy

Fart Proudly- Writings of Benjamin Franklin You Never Read in School
Edited by Carl Japikse.

As the title says this collection of writings is somewhat obscure my favorite being a letter written to the royal academy in 1783. In it he proposed and advocates the idea a pill or substance could be included into food and drink which would render flatulence inoffensive. He calls for a perfume of flower smell which would be pleasant and agreeable to all. Done with all seriousness but it is really an attempt at humor. Ol Ben was a wild and crazy guy Very Happy

Some short some long, easily 30-40 different essays which show that side of Ben not well known. Good winter reading.

By chance I chose another odd book entitled “The Best America Shit Stories” By Michael Weiss. It’s a humorous bathroom reader full of short stories and weird bits of trivia like this quote by former POTUS Harry S. Truman ( be sure to google this quote)

“ Never kick a fresh turd on a hot day”

We have a few used book stores here and wife and I are voracious readers. That’s no BS.
