Today marks that day that I have owned my 1985 Westfalia for ½ my life. I bought it 34 years and 10 months ago. It's hard to imagine how different things would have been had I not decided to buy that steel box so many years ago.

Last month we reached another milestone: the odometer turned 300,000 miles. I particularly like the fact that it happened a couple of hundred miles east of Seattle on a 7,000 mile round trip from metro Atlanta.

How long have you owned your Vanagon?

19 years. Got it for free from my parents just to haul it away, it was dead and parked in their yard for 6 years. Put a rebuild engine in it and have lived in it ever since.

x10 on that

Bought our syncro westy new in june of '91...after the one we got new in june '89 was stolen..so over 28 years now.

So I am also at the half my life has had on Vanagon in it..

'91 has 365 000 miles on it..combined mileage of both vans ~ 390 000 miles.

Wife retires from teaching in a couple of years..plan was always to go full time in the van then.

This will start with a +30 year old vehicle with ~ 400 000 miles on it...that idea did not sound so goofy when I was younger Laughing

1989 Westy, 25 years and counting as second owner. It's currently being resurrected/renovated to last me out as my final ride.

Bought an '89 Bluestar new and it was our family car for 10 years.
Now an '89 Syncro for 14 years.

Really cool to see so many very long-time owners.

My wife and I bought an '84 GL in '90 from the original owners with 60K on it. We each had kids and were expecting one of our own. It was her daily driver until 2005 when a burnt valve and years spent underneath and bent over the engine compartment said it was time for another car. Got her a 2001 Volvo V70 T5. Not sure what it is about me and vehicles that demand attention. Still have the '84 after 29 years and an additional 135K miles. Still have the Volvo, too.

Bought an '88 Westy in September of last year as part of my therapy after my wife passed away. The therapy's working! I recently recruited a Co-Pilot/Navigator. She'll be with me in the Westy next week in Joshua Tree for my 68th Birthday and doesn't mind being in a Van with my wife's name on it. So, I've had the Westy all of a year and a bit.

The '84 is starting to look a lot like a Donor Van.

Dan

1970 Beetle in '82, did a pan-off that didn't last, but the engine came out and went into a '67 Westy SO42 that I traded in 2015 for Flossie my '87 full Westy. So, technically, just 4 years. Spiritually though, I guess a long time. Sure, there were others that came and went, but my daily drive Westy's have always held my heart Smile Haven't been without at least one Westy since '86!!
