There are two M10 x 1.0 pitch bolts which hold the steering arms in place, as well as the backing plate. One is 42 mm long, the other 52 mm. When I removed my steering arms last week, one of my longer 52 mm bolts sheared off, so I am looking for a replacement.
But they seem to be almost impossible to find ! The fine 1.0 pitch makes them quite rare. Anyone know where I can get hold of any ? Only really need one !!
Thanks,
G |

I have parts cars I could rob for them, if mine don't snap off like yours did?
They are the same bolts on both backing plates?
Be cheaper if you can find them in OZ though. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Yeah, those bolts are used on all disc brake type 3s, so if you can find a set of spindles in OZ you might try and get them locally. If not, give Joel Mitchell (Boo-Koo-Z)an e-mail or PM him. He's an advertiser in the classifieds on the Samba. I'm not sure when disc brakes started there, but here in the states, it was 66 thru 73. I think there it was 68 or 69 thru 73. Don't know if that helps or not. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

This may not help you...but you can buy them in a wide range of lengths in M10 X 1.0 from McMaster Carr in standard class 8.8.

Thanks everyone - Will be digging a lot deeper locally on Monday once places are open so I can speak to them. But places like McMaster Carr are a last stop if I have no other option - Thanks Ray. Informative website of theirs, too. Out of interest, their only M10 extra fine bolts are Medium Strength, but they recommend High Strength for automotive suspension systems. Are Medium Strength enough for the steering arm bolts ?
Cheers,

I have several original Kamax 10k bolts - shipping is going to be expensive though.
PM me with your address for a complete cost.

You can probably do fine with class 8.8...but yes they would be better at class 10.9.
If you dont buy from Ataraxia...which you should.....you can get them at bolt depot in 60mm...just cut or grind to length....for $1.18 each.

Thanks Ataraxia, very much appreciated. Let me have 24 hours to see what I can find tomorrow my time (Monday) and I will get back to you.
Believe it or not, met a guy at a social function today and when the subject of my bolt came up, he said "If you give me the broken bolt, I can make you a new one real easily next week" !! That is part of his job ! So I will check more local bolt places locally first, and take it from there.
But the help and offers made just show the excellent value of this site - And these little cars

Most Japeneese cars used fine thread bolts, you could find them at a wrecking yard pretty easy. _________________ There are no stupid questions, only stupid people,

Found some in Aus ! They broke 2 as they tried to extract them, but the other two came out fine and are on their way to me.
10 minutes later someone called me with 2 more.
And another person will let me know if they found some tomorrow !
So all good, thank you all for your input.
Suggest if anyone plans to pull their steering apart, they take great care to get them out in one piece !
