Interesting bumper guards... not the tall USA style, not the small later European style... sort of in-between. I hadn't noticed those before.

Those are 1938 only bumpers. Early prototype stuff. This car is number 5 from the VW38 series. You can’t see it in the photo but the front bumper is actually in two pieces with a connecting bar behind the licence plate.

Nice picture. Any history behind the photo? Taken at a flat terrained military base by the looks of things? Is the fellow on the right an American serviceman?

Kubel headlights in Beetle wings didn't look so pretty, but did the trick!

no info on photo - yes gent with pipe looks american and original photo turned up in usa
