Proud of mom. WAC Before ‘ladies’ really did that sort of thing. Able to shoot an Ak with accuracy AND she still knows how to drive a stick. |

No disrespect, but how would you do it on a bus? Right front bumper? Right roof? _________________ Prosit!

Not picking on you but most people don't display the flag correctly.
Some people think it's a status symbol to fly a torn and tattered flag behind their pickem up truck. When a flag is torn it needs to be retired. A number of years ago the local post office was flying a torn flag. I told the postmaster and she said the USPS would not replace it. I called the US Marine Corps League and told them. The next day they delivered a new flag and "properly" retired the old.
Most people don't know the rules, my son did a report in 6th grade on them so I know.
While people having the flag on those car window plastic poles mean well, they are not doing it correctly.
Someone should tell the NFL they should research how to display the flag.

You're also not to use the flag in advertising and or as a article of clothing or as a table cloth.
As to displaying the flag at my house I have it hung in landscape format from my house. I also take it down at night since it should be illuminated when dark. _________________ Glenn

Every vet should be thanked today, of course. Our freedom is dependent on those willing to risk or give all for a higher purpose than themselves. Some voluntarily, some by draft, but all gave and deserve respect.
We have lost most of our WWII vets by now. They received well-deserved thanks at the time they returned. Less so for Korean vets, and it got worse...
So this year, spend a little time thinking about, and thanking our Vietnam vets. Few got proper thanks when they returned, many were treated shamefully. Many came back damaged but without support we (almost) give them today.
The media, and many others, made the mistake of blaming the least blameworthy for the horrors and sometimes atrocities of that war. In almost all cases, it was command and politics that made decisions that got splashed on the front pages. Those following orders were made victims, too, as a country tired of a futile war blamed everyone and everything associated with it for the human failures of a few. We sure threw the baby out with the bathwater. I hope we do not make that mistake again.
I was just a bit too young to be drafted. Older family was not drafted due to the college exemption for many years of it. So I can't speak personally on their experiences.
And most do not with to share to this day, either out of demons, partitioning to cope, assumed shame or guilt, or just a desire to move on. Give them a look in the eye, a heartfelt thank you, and shake their hand with a firm grip.
Ask nothing, just give thanks, please. They didn't hear it enough at the time. |

Thanks for the flag code reminder. I'm endlessly asking those in my community to not fly ratty, stained flags. As a member of a 100% veteran household ( except me) , it hurts them to see flags improperly handled. If you can't fly it right, please don't fly it!
Also if you have any spare time please, please consider volunteering to help the veteran community in some way. Local VFW and AL posts are a good entry point. The "system" often falls short in addressing their needs. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

It goes further when a President dies it flies at half staff for 30 days. A senator gets 7 days but around here you’d be surprised how many businesses fcked that up or maybe they followed the lead from White House which also fckd that up. I’ll call em on it when I see it,
I personally lowered the flag at a bank because the death was announced on a Sunday to honor former president H W Bush even though I never voted for him. Honor the flag, respect the office even if you disagree with the man. Here’s a tidbit you’ll see from time to time..... the difference between half staff and half mast. Half mast pertains to ships , Naval installations and Coast Guard. Half staff is correct for everything else. |
