Exactly. I run a bolt through one of mine just to keep the handle down, not so much security. I actually have a ball that locks in the receiver to secure the trailer. My little NOS accessory for the trailers. _________________

Cool. Presume you are putting a Master lock on it when it's attached to the hitch on the bus? |

No just a bolt. I have yet to do an overnighter where Im worried the trailer may get taken. _________________

My apologies! I went back and read your original statement, and it made perfectcly good sense. I understand completely, now, what you're saying. I guess I was just distracted by Abscate and whom/what was going to be eaten.
I took a little closer look at mine, and without question, I would say it was intended to hold some sort of lock, as was mentioned above. Think master lock etc.

It is for a lock indeed. I have one. Will post pics next month when I am back home. |

Here in Norcal they just shoot you then take the bus and trailer. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

Finally here is the lock I was talking about. I can only demonstrate it correctly when the trailer is mounted behind the bus: in that case the handle is in "rest position" allowing the lock to snap into the groove.
Never seen this kind of accessory. But I think it is very, very cool

That looks a bit like the steering lock from a plunger-frame BMW motorcycle like the R67. You might be able to adapt the lock from one of them to fit this application. _________________ '75 Campmobile (tin-top to SpaceRoof)

Ya, that was exactly what I was asking about, but it doesn't look anything like what I imagined. Thank you very much for the pictures.
As an aside, I did install an Abus #30 lock on my trailer lid that I picked up on the classifieds here

Impressed by the lock from Globusoverland, I posted up a WTB on the Facebook Westfalia Trailer page using the pictures above. Apparently in Sweden, this kind of lock is available at most lock smiths for around 25 Euros. I have one in the mail to me now. Perhaps they are also readily available elsewhere in Europe.
I will follow up here after I have had a chance to try it out.

It looks like I could pull the handle up and rip that lock apart if I wanted to. Let me know if it's as flimsy as it looks and is any kind of real deterrent?

Jason, jou could rip that whole Essen if you pull hard...
This lock is nothing more than a basic item against a hit and run. |

Put a bungee over it..same security level
You can take a lock off a trailer in 0.314159 seconds
When my neighbor died in her house recently, I broke into her house with a scout knife, twisting the bolt chain from Home Despot three times until it s link snapped. _________________ .ssS! |

Things have been moving woefully slow on the trailer. If you've been following along in the bus thread, I've had my plate full with engine related obstacles. As such, I haven't put a lot of time or effort into the trailer.
However, I had a little time to mess around with the rims this weekend.
I bought some new tires and inner tubes:
Put the inner tube inside the tire, pulled the valve through the rim, attached the other side of the rim and bolted them together:
Initially, I had bought bearings that were unshielded. That would probably have been fine. However, I did a little digging, and found that I would prefer a single shield bearing instead. The shielded side will face outward on the rim:
The interior surface remains capable of receiving grease from the zerk fitting:
This is the type of bearing (6203ZR) I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007MFTRG4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I must confess that I got a little ahead of myself and installed both sets of bearings for both rims, and then realized that I had forgotten to install the axle spacer, in my haste.
New bearings on order. That will hopefully wrap the rims up. |

Looking for pics of anyone's wiring from bus to the trailer as far as connections are concerned. I have an idea of what I want to do but am looking to see how everyone else did theirs. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.
