Holy smokes, that 5 vans and bunch of parts for $3500 is crazy, great if you've got space and a way to haul it all.
the second link is already dead ($3000 leaky tintop). _________________ '89 2WD Westy "Grey Goose" - Manual 4spd

Not a Vanagon, but seems like a nice 4x4 LT to make a camper out of.
Bit of hassle to import, however having done it myself I can say it's not too bad of a process. (or get Busman to help)

Beware the scams and swindlers! I found one named Jim. Don’t go to Leeds Al. There are no good deals on nice vans in Leeds, AL.

I'd be suspicious. That's an ad on the Chicago CL for two vans with Virginia antique plates and a Petersburg VA area map (30 miles from here). Also, those vans are not on the local CL.

You people are overly suspicious.
It is only fishy when the seller does something to warrant it.
You never know until you actually check a deal out.
If you just want to send money sight unseen, then yes you are the one asking for problems.
Some people just price things to make them move.
There are so so many dreamer prices here that it is easy to think a good deal is fishy. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

I remember these VW's on craigslist here in Richmond / Charlottesville VA. Same pictures, originally asking something like $18k for the westy and $15k for the syncro. As such, I think this ad is legit, but not in chicago. _________________ '89 2WD Westy "Grey Goose" - Manual 4spd

I drove 5 hours to get mine in a torrential downpour so heavy had to get a hotel room rather than camp.
Totally worth it, in hindsight 3 more would have been no big deal, in terms of effort vs. reward ratio.

I have an early Bay top I've been trying to sell for months. Complete with hinges, new seals, usable canvas, canvas clamps- everything. It's listed for $100 and the only people even slightly interested have been guys looking to put it on a Chevy or something else non-VW. But it still hasn't sold.
I think it's one of those items where the guy who desperately needs it will happily pay $1000 for it. But if someone doesn't need it, they won't even take it for free.
I've gone through the same thing with Westy cabinets. I paid a fortune and drove 10 hours each way to pick up a complete cabinet set when I was building my Bus because I couldn't find anything closer. Since then, I have ended up with 2 sets I could hardly even give away. Next time I part a Bus or Vanagon, I probably wouldn't bother keeping that stuff. It will just go with the scrap. |
