Update on my son's decision for his Surfari adventure.
- does not want to spend $10-12K for a reliable Westy Vanagon
- does not need to have a VW
- does not want to buy a car and spend 3-4 months testing it for issues
- has a buddy with a 1995 GMC Surf Van for $3000 that is tested
- plans to graduate in the spring, buy the GMC van, & enjoy surfing over the summer months, then attend college in the fall.
I appreciate all the advice shared in this group! Your comments/warnings/encouragements gave us plenty to consider in making this decision. In the long run it's the best for my son. |

I've never seen so much planning and advice given on what I think should be an adventure. Sucks all the fun out of it. Buy a new car, make a detailed itinerary and ensure every detail is arranged. Wheee! I think I'm channeling Terry K. _________________ '90 White Westy ("Knarr")

Never heard of him.
Agree on less planning. Some forget what fun is, and it ain't a repeat of the precise regimentation most of us tolerate at work, and at home.
Congrats to the OP's kid. He'll have a ball. _________________ ‘84 Westy, 2.1L with Digijet, 5.43 R+P, GT Gears

Eh, the yoga kids are a dime a dozen nowadays and are looking well past Sprintagons for nesting places. An Astro may attract a bendy person with a taste for life outside the tired mainstream. _________________ - Jim
