Hey guys I’m restoring a 1966 beetle. I did new heater channels and other replacement panels as well. The body is on a dolly and is also in primer. I am planning on painting it Fontana grey single stage ppg. My question is how many coats will I need to put on so I make certain not to burn through the paint when wet sanding orange peel. Thanks 🙏

Well this might sound a wee bit sarcastic but its not.....it all depends on how bad the orange peel is.

So...normally I like to do a light coat and then two medium wet coats of single stage. If you have a lot of peel you might want to go for another medium wet coat

. Gotcha. Thanks. I was told that single stage paint overspray get everywhere. More so than two stage is this true? I had planned on painting this in my garage and just putting plastic around the walls

I think the basically all produce the same amount of over spray.

I have painted many cars in my garage. I drop blue tarps from the ceiling and I make sure the floor is wet down to reduce dust. Make sure you have good airflow and a respirator.

Some plastic sheeting is fine to control over spray
