Brian, you are right. if that car had the other feature that an early car has it would look...yes, good. that's what I'm doing. I'd never stop with just the tail lights.

and thanks for the suggestion about the tombstone lights, but I've already bought my split lights as well as early some early rear fenders.

as I emphasized earlier I'm going for a split "look" not a total conversion. the 6v look (earlier fenders and sometimes even an early deck lid and aprons, etc.) is pretty popular in Japan. some look nicer than others, others look kind of half assed but still not bad. doesn't look out of place.

here are some pics of 6v "look" cars on the yahoo Japan auction site right now for grabs. these aren't even close or the best example to what I'm doing, but just goes to show you that it's a fairly common trend to put early parts on a later bug. notice the early fenders with later front hood and aprons on the one car. interesting but works alright in my book. there was even a later to oval conversion on there last week. looked damn nice. Cool too bad I didn't get a pic of it... Crying or Very sad

or how about the world famous Flat4 car (Inch Pincher III) that has a split window with later rear fenders? it doesn't look ridiculous, now does it.

You could use this converted Super Beetle as inspiration. Just don't look at the front. Laughing

"have a 1943 KDF Split Window Beetle Replica that is made for WW2 reenacting. The engine and transmission have been rebuilt, the brakes have completely been rebuilt with new lines, wheel and master cylinders. All new suspension and steering parts all have been replaced with a new set of all terrain tires. All the body parts and rear window were from glass action in California. The rear part of the window is starting to crack where the bondoglass meets the window which could easily be repaired and painted. The gauge cluster and the dash supplies were from kubel kar. The bug is a real head turner and is great at reenactments. I have taken the bug off road and in the snow and never had any troubles. Starts every time, the only reason I am selling is due to moving. Any questions please ask!"

73sedan, I like that you are having fun with your car Twisted Evil I have made an oval super beetle (long time ago) The big thing with your project is proportions. Keep in mind that your car is a little wider & with smaller tail lights it will look even wider. I think someone said that earlier about 'does this make my butt look big' I would go with the next size light up & use some LED's to put all the lights, brakes, tail, signal in one nice package. Keep us posted & enjoy.

Was checking my air filter today, found white oil jell in the air filter holder.
I’ve had this before, but I don’t remember how I repaired it. Any help would be great!

sounds like condensation. drive it hard enough to get it really warm, as in get on the highway for an hour roundtrip or so and flog it.
