... no doubt my Dad's old bus influenced me to want to have them too. I can remember as that small blond boy at such a young age thinking how incredibly COOL these things are.
My Dad bought his in Sweden while over there on a sabbatical in the 60's... on his way back he drove it all around the UK, and then had it shipped to NYC (got it broken into the first night in NYC and lost all his new audio equipment), then drove it across the continent to BC where he continued to drive it for years. We made many trips to California in it to visit family.
This pic is from Bakersfield in the late 60's.

Cool pic Ed! I see that a VW bus is in your genes. |
Yeah! ...and my mom had a bug. She used to play double-bass in Vancouver Symphony so she had the front seat removed and used that space to transport the bass! [she should have bought a bus!]
...also my G'ma always had bugs too. _________________ www.edwardpowell.com |

Well if you are going to post a split in the Vanagon Forum
This is when we officially overfilled our 7 passenger T4 with the 7th and 8th members of the family. We put the twins into one seatbelt.
That was legal at the time, we checked.

Thread title is confusing. Transit or school busses? |

First day of school this year after an entire summer of wandering. Such a deep rooted part of the family.

Fabulous idea, Ed!!!
Our '65 Splitty somewhere in Wisconsin, either Door County or in the SE, around 1967. We went to 44 states, mostly in this "Old Red Traveler" and a few in a teal-white '67, by the time I was 10.
Edit: might be 1968, the trailer is my Grandparents' and their new Chevy (partly visible) was I think a '68.
The Herculean kid that looks like Fabio is me, the other my brother. ( )
This image was literally, unexpectedly emailed to me by an uncle on Friday, and is the only Splitty image I have digitally. It took a good hour to dust and at least that to get good color back in. The rest are on dusty slides in storage, I did not inherit photo techniques.
