Hi.
I'm restoring my 61 standard mango which was built in December 60.
Its missing a few parts and I'm looking to find everything that is 'correct’ as I'm doing it pretty much 100% stock other than maybe fitting a repro Devon interior. Not sure yet. Might do it stock but I have nothing.
There are only screw holes on the driver side for sun visors. I bought a pair of original VW padded sun visors but I believe they are wrong and I should have the card style? Is that the correct sun visor?
The cab doors have no recess for the handles, tailgate has the crescent pressing above the handle, and it's the last year for high hindge cargo doors... I'm missing all the external handles, other than I pair of nos cab door handles. I'm not sure they are right though, I will find the part numbers out and post them on here... What part numbers should I be looking to find for all the external handles?
Would the interior cab and cargo door handles be chrome or plastic? I have one interior handle, not sure which it is off the top of my head. I'll find out out and put a pic / part number on later.
I have the SRBL17 rear lights with the spade terminals which I believe are one year only? Anything else I should consider while trying to make everything “correct”?

I will try to answer everything you asked.
Hardboard visors.
There are probably only holes on the driver's side.
This is normal, the passenger side was usually an option or added by the dealer or an owner
Front door handles thread with part numbers
The cargo door handle is 59-63 if you want to be correct, part # 211841631C
The rear hatch handle is basically the same for all small rear hatch models
I believe it's part # 211829231A
Interior door handles are plastic for your month/year
Correct on the taillights - they are push-terminal. Basically 1 year only as they were only used for the 60-61 period when Buses were upgraded to push-terminal wiring connections.
You have 14" wheels on the Bus? You need 15" wheels.
I'm not sure about what other items to mention, you might want to ask as things progress. _________________ How to Post Photos

Interesting you brought up the steering column support Clara.
I believe it must have changed in 1960 somewhere, but I haven’t taken the time to pen down the details yet.
The earlier 58/59’s seem to have a green one with no bumper.
The 60/61’s seem to have the black support with the rubber bumper around it.
It may be closely related to the shifter change...?

Thanks for the reply... I will look through the handle thread in a min.
Iv got the tail lights sorted, need to find a front bullet indicator base with spade terminal.
Yeah they were just wheels to get it rolling. I have a set of 15" now for it.
Thanks Clara.
I forgot I posted that about the interior. Iv read all the mango mafia thread, and a few of the others but there are quite a few changes over the years and I want all the details on mine 100%.
The steering column bracket on mine looks like it was black, but it could have been replaced. It looks black on 'Stanagon's 61 too.

Would the rubber bumper have been grey?
This is my interior:
You can see the chrome interior handle. I assume this is not correct
Ivory cargo door interior handle:

My previous nov 9 60 mango had a black support bracket. Rubber knee bumper was missing. Had a single light coloured visor. I wouldn’t say white, but not commercial grey. |

I believe the correct color for the sunvisor is gazelle beige.
You can read more about them here:

Here is a lot of good info as well:

Thanks. I have sourced a full lock set and ignition switch.
Had a look through some of my parts earlier. These didnt come with my bus, just what I have in the garage...
One wiper arm. I took a pic of the base but its really blurry. Its about 6.5/7cm long and stamped VW. The arm is around 3mm wide. Blade stamped VW. Would this be the right one for my 61?
I also have a single interior quarter light catch. Its got a chrome base and button, but looks like a silver painted arm. Would this be correct?
Does anyone know the correct horn? I would have thought this would be the correct one?
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2329580
If so, should it have the Bosch logo/plate in the middle like the earlier horns?
But these are also 6 volt with spade terminals:

Thanks again |

A '61 would have the "thick" wiper arms
Top example here where it shows thick vs. thin:
The width of the "thick" 60-67 wiper arm is: 3/16"
The earlier thin wiper arm is 1/8"
Your bases look correct in that photo
60-65 bases are the bottom length here
The wing window latch should be all chrome.
It looks like that is a Beetle latch to me
Bus ones have a thinner portion where it slides over the chrome catch
This face design looks correct to me _________________ How to Post Photos
