The guy on top looks like Ray Manzerak and the guy below like Jonathan Winters.

I have had my hat as my avatar for awhile now, Volkswagen advertising at its finest!
I did not know there are repros around
What are the differences? |

East Coast Joe "made" them in the past. We have an original one and I think the easy difference is the real one has a clear "sleeve" on the inside top for the "license". |

Thank you for the reply, I appreciate it!
Soon after I posted yesterday, I thought maybe the tag of the company that actually produced the hats could be an identifier to tell if OG vs. repro.
Lets see those hats people! |

I am the hat model in the top picture, and it is actually the same hat on Joe M's head in the lower picture. I have the original hat that "east coast" Joe G. used to get them reproduced, as well as a couple repros. When Joe sold me the hats many years ago, he told me that there was a stash of leftover hats that was discovered in the '90s, and they were mostly smalls and mediums. Most originals out there are smalls or mediums, most repros are larges or extra larges.
The reproductions have a fully rectangular BUS DRIVER badge/plate/whatever on the front. The originals have quarter-round cutouts on all the corners of that badge.
There is a clear plastic piece sewn into the inside top that holds a piece of paper. On the originals, it is half round at the back, on the repros it is sewn with straight lines.
There are plenty of little differences, pretty much everything is different, but similar. Overall, the reproductions are pretty good. Here is a pic of the inside without the insert card which was only on originals.
