I think the VW dealerships still sell batteries that fit. Probably not worth the cost though. |

A while ago someone mentioned a Miata battery under the rear seat. No complaints so far.
It actually fits right side up as well. I installed it when the new wire harness went in. No strap or tie down. I haven't heard the battery move around. The previous, strapless, in the engine compartment did move.

A bit late with this information but, I recently purchased a 6 volt unit for my 57 from Illinois Battery here in Chicago. It is correct in all dimensions and has the old style non sealed cells. My hold down strap fits properly, and it is unmarked on the sides which would lend itself to some laser cut repro stickers. ( Kinko's ? ) It cost me $46.00 with a three year pro-rata warranty. How do you know what size / model Optima to go with? I went to their site and used the battery selctor put in VW/ Ghia and my year "73" and says no match found.... |
