Yeah, yours is down low on the left side.
Newer ones that are on top are the ones that get into all sorts of variations.
This is one worry that does NOT concern you.

And yes! Two days in the 60's in January! Who woulda thunk? Today was amazing, warm and absolutely cloud free!

Thanks Dave. Not to be overly obsessive (I know, too late), I am still concerned about two things— the rod is about 103mm and not rounded. One wonders 1) if the extra length had anything to do with the leak and 2) if the sharp edge will cut into the shaft. Perfectly happy to get a rounded 100mm rod if necessary. _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

Puzzling Pushrod Pauses Progress
Small town, Connecticut
In his quest to get a communal so-called “Karmann Ghia” up and running by spring, Trylon (an improbable psuedonym presumably referring to a long vanished monument of some sort) has been stymied in his efforts by a puzzling measurement.
It seems that the “push rod” in the Rube Goldbergian design that comprises the the fuel pump of said “Karmann Ghia” comically protrudes an unheard of amount (refer to photograph credited to Trylon).
No further details are known at this time but it remains to be seen whether or not Trylon will Triumph in his lofty goal.

Thanks for this!
So according to this it seems that the push rod may be within specs after all (need to measure min/max):
EverettB wrote: |
I don't know about the pressure issue but the stroke is supposed to be between 29mm and 34mm according to my '55 shop manual.
This includes both gaskets which should be "in perfect condition"
29 and 34mm markings on factory tool
|
So what is the meaning of this in the ‘58-‘60 VW Workshop Manual in regard to the “Gauge VW 328c”?
Quote: |
The marks correspond to a length of 8 mm (.31”) and 13 mm (.51) measured from the fuel pump contact flange (incl. gaskets) to the projecting push rod end. |

Thanks for this as well. Have seen a few but I always wonder what has been done to my vehicle that might negate the obvious choices. _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

The manual you have indicates it's for 1958-1960 models, which would cover 36hp and 40hp engines. I'm not aware of the 40 horse fuel pump differences from a 36hp, but just wanted to point out that the photos in the pages you're referencing appear to show a 40 horse engine, and I would guess the measurements referenced are for said engine as well. |

That would have been great, unfortunately it seems the only fuel pump that I can find information on is the one for the 40hp. Perhaps my edition is abridged? Hard to believe that that tome could have been thicker. _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0
