hi all
I'm installing a JX motor in an 82 diesel westy, and need to see how an original Euro market imported turbodiesel motor's aircleaner brackets attach to the body,
I have the JX aircleaner, and fiberglass brackets, but would like to see how it originally attached to the body.
If someone happens to have an imported van and has access to that corner and could shoot a few pix of it, I'd be appreciative!
Also, looking for the little rubber doohickeys that isolate the aircleaner from the brackets. (they're smaller that any others on US market vans)
thanks in advance,
Steve
regards,
Steve

I've never seen a JX in person, but I always thought the housing was bolted to the engine. I wonder if that approach might reduce noise levels. _________________ Casey--

Hi Casey!
The vertical duct is what produces the most noises. The rubber hose to the turbo plastic hose has bellows. One thing I still don't understand to this day is these have the same part numbers on 2WD and Syncro even though something should be longer bc the engine is lower on Syncro.
On my TD Syncro conversion I encountered no issue related to this.... _________________ Silicone Steering Boots and 930 Cv boots for sale in the classifieds.

As you can see, mine is broken too. Replacement is available here but in poor Quality. The stock ones break in the rubber with time, while the replacements fail in the bond between rubber and metal instantly.
Iĺl come up with something involving cable ties. |

No threads on my cars, just into the frame.

hi gang,
Well, I did get the holes drilled for the brackets for the aircleaner this afternoon thinks to your pictures and knowledge!
As I move farther down the list, I have this "hose" from the air intake snorkel to the air cleaner. It's shot, anf I'm trying to figure out how important the screen and foam covering on it are (see pic), or can I just replace it with flexible hose.
What was VW thinking in using this system?
thanks again for all your help!
Regads,
Steve |

I don't have a van, I have a flat bed so my hose is different. However, that was probably a high grade flexible hose capable of withstanding all sorts of vibration while isolating the body from transmitted sound. Or something to that effect.
There's some pretty good aviation style air hoses out there that could work. |

Sound dampening. Not necessary, But this hose rests at the bottom of the D-pillar and can rattle. Use some foam or something similar. |
