Thank you. Actually, I'm reading the forum since 2011 when I bought my T2. Now it's time for engine restoration and inspired by this topic, I've created this stand.

Kick, very nice. You must have access to a CNC plasma table.

Here's my setup. It's a VW Alley five arm yoke and a HF 2000 lb stand that I've had a heavy diesel hanging from. I also use the stand for one end of a rotisserie for metal work and painting. The starter adapter bolts to the yoke and the engine and worked great for the cam run in on the stand.

Over at a friends house today and saw this take on engine stand. Good idea it rotates 360 and goes up and down too. Very Happy

yes it’s actually one leg of a two post lift with a factory type stand attached. The engine is going into type 3 and yes that’s a 6volt flywheel.

With the adapter I used to sell you could hang a ACVW on any V8 type stand with adjustable fingers...

and after you get the short block assembled you can add one to the other side and take the strain off the one side of the case

these adapters and case are on a three wheeled stand that has had two 460 fords rebuilt on it and it was never tippy

Man I wish I still had access to the waterjet machine.

Thats a nice stand but you will run into the same problem I did on my green stand and the first stand adapter I made, on the case flange that bolts to the case, in the middle you will fight it pulling the piston pin on #3. at least on 36hp and 40hp motors

John,

It was great to chat with you at length this morning about how your friend built you that rolling base to mount your Matra VW dealership stand to. Awesome, I hope to do the same too! I hope to meet up with you this Spring or at BNNTA this year!

I scrolled through this post and there is some seriously genius ideas and amazing fabrication work. Here's mine that I slapped together in a few hours from scrap metal. The cresecents that hug the case are 1/4" plate, which are backed up by 1/2" plate. A couple chunks of PTO shaft for standoffs and another piece of 1/2" plate that bolts to the engine stand. Ugly but functional, and it does fit nicely.

This was before I found a spacer to put on the bottom stud. I'm not splitting the case currently, but figured it was a fine time to get an adapter for future work. Right now I just have some cleanup to do from oil leaks, and you can see the remains of a mouse nest that was completely packed into 3 and 4.

A bay bell housing bolts up to a cheap ebay engine stand. I just had to cut a couple of spacers to stand the case off enough to clear the lip to mate the halves.

When complete, just bolt up a starter motor to test run the engine...

How do you split the case with using full bell housing...

I just made this one. It’s low so it’s easy to get an engine on. Also I plan to use it as a test stand.

Doesn't that hurt your back building an engine?
