Can someone post a picture of what a stock 1970 door panel is supposed to look like? I searched the gallery and couldn't find anything, only older models.
The panels on my Ghia have lines 'stitched' into them, and it looks like it was done by hand because it looks pretty lousy. So I'm guessing they're not original.
Lastly, does anyone sell accurate (or close) reproductions?

I have a 1970 convertible and my door panel looks like yours. I plan on replacing them with two tone panels to match the new seats. _________________ ----------------------

From the Archive section of The Samba, there are a couple of pictures from the 1970 model year Karmann Ghia sales brochures which show partial views of the door panels ...
... and thi picture from the 1970 Karmann Ghia Owner's Manual ...

Yes I can if you like, no problem. Seems strange though they donīt sell overseas.
Check out this seller. Maybe itīs ok with them to ship to the US.
Otherwise I can help you out.

The easiest way is to buy TMI door panels and the lower door panel chrome strips and clamping plates from KGPR and fit them to the panel. the original chrome trims on the 70 door panels were plastic and heat welded to the vinyl. _________________ Cheers,

That interior in the 2nd pic with what looks like darker fake wood and the houndstooth inserts... Love it! _________________ 1964 MG Midget MK1 Monte Carlo Replica

I finally got around to ordering these at the end of April, and they arrived from Germany exactly a month later. They look very nice. You would think that someone in the US would make accurate reproduction panels, but I guess not.
Unfortunately I won't be installing them anytime soon, as the Ghia is in storage while I work on my bus.

That's what I was looking at. The listing stays "Sold" and he has no more listed.
I'll try to contact the seller.
Thank you. _________________ Marc

There's a good condition original set from a 71 in the classifieds. Originals have "flatter" pressings. TMI panels always look really puffy where the seams are pressed. Originals also have the faux leather/hyde grain that repros don't have.

I've been trying to make a deal with this seller for 2 weeks. I asked for more photos. He replied at first but then stopped replying. He re-listed today and I noticed that he will not ship, local pick up only. It would be nice if he just communicated so we could try to work something out. _________________ Marc

I contacted Qualitat (Germany) through Ebay user ID "oldtimer-ersatzteile24" and they did reply that they have none in stock but maybe might have some in one month. Doesn't sound too promising. I also contacted Qualitat through a website on line. I received a reply from their New Zealand Branch that they could not help.
I also contacted Sewfine by phone and they are not able to duplicate the later Ghia factory style panels at all. Only the hand sewn older style panels.
Kevin, The Aussie Trimmer, can make them but I do not know yet what the cost would be.
Then of course there's TMI which is always available. _________________ Marc

Andy:
The panels you received from Qualitat look very similar to TMI panels, but they do look like they are a different maker. Does the vinyl itself have any grain patterns in it? The 71 door panels pictured above have a fake leather grain look. If possible, could you please post a close up photo of the vinyl texture that you received?
I've seen a few cars that have regular TMI panels and they installed chrome body side moldings to replace the factory chrome strips. When done correctly, it looks good. _________________ Marc
