So the whole selling our house and buying a new one with a bigger garage thing didn’t work out. What can I say, we chose the wrong agent and she was just worthless. Either way, the Bug has been at a friends house for about a year now. This weekend I’m moving my Ghia to a friends garage to store it for the winter and the bug is coming back to be in the garage and worked on through the winter. Hopefully on Sunday I’ll have some pics of it in the garage to post.

So while the Ghia is out of the garage and safe, and I was waiting for the Bug to come back, I decided the garage needed some upgrades. It’s much brighter and cleaner. It was quite cluttered. First 3 pics are before.

It looks ready! I have wondered about this bug. Looking forward to the winter progress.

Can’t figure out how to make the pics not sideways, but the Bug is back. I’m going to start back on it in the morning.

For the first time in forever, I finally worked on the Super. Started sanding it, cleaning it from it sitting outside, and making a plan for how to move forward. I’m going to have to take the body back off the pan, scuff it up, and repaint it. Also have a lot of welds to grind and clean up. Should be a lot better and easier to do with it now in the garage and not outside.

Been sick all week and not feeling well, so I’ve only done a bit of work on the car. Spent some time trying to get the rear apron to fit properly.

Have a lot of grinding and cleaning to do as I am slowly working towards epoxy primer and body work.

The good news is that you are getting plenty of penetration! LOL I hate chasing holes too. My son says I spend more time grinding than welding but all is well that ends well.

I love the picture with the leaves. My work has been done mainly in the wild and that looks like home. Smile

Enjoy the garage.

Well, after being sick most of December, and even spending 3 days in the hospital, I’ve finally got back to working on the Super. Been working on getting it in bare metal and cleaning up and finishing welds.

This is my favorite view of a Super Beetle. That bulbous front end is automotive art for me.

Glad to hear you are feeling better! The car is looking fantastic. How motivating.

Got some parts from a friend today for the Super. Good used apron, and cut the fender retaining nuts off of a front clip he had to replace the pulled out ones on my car. Hopefully I’ll have them both well on the way to welded on by the end of the day tomorrow. I’m also hoping to have a few things epoxy primered.

Well, decided not to use the used apron. It had a lot of bondo and some deep dents in it. So I started cutting out the notches and filling them for the stock exhaust. Somehow I got sidetracked and started sanding the replacement drivers door. It had a lot more paint on it than I expected and took a lot more work than I’d figured. However all the paint is off of it. Still have to strip the glass and mechanicals out of it. One night this week I’ll finish the apron and get it welded to the car.

You just went and bare metalled that bug. There is no other way.

I must protest the shaved trunk handle. Now I have to re-visit that whole debate in my head for my own build. Where is my therapist's number?

This is now a Game-On situation in your garage. When you walk out there tomorrow morning you are gonna crack a grin from ear to ear. Seems the office is going to get another sick day notice. How are you going to concentrate at work now? Especially on a Friday.

Applause

I’ve always wanted a shaved trunk handle. Shaved the rear vents, antenna, and a few other things too. It feels good to see progress.

That’s 2 fenders now that really should just be replaced.

Also started to weld on the apron and jus got frustrated because the welds weren’t taking. I’ll revisit it another day when I’m not frustrated.

A hammer and dolly set is dirt cheap and you can take those dents right out watching a couple of YouTube videos on the process. I'm with you, when its not fun take a break, this is a hobby after all. When it is fun, it flows like water. Enjoy.

Got that covered. Just don’t want to spend a ton of time on it when I could replace it and move on.
