Not much of an update really
But I replaced the blown L/R tire with a used one (since it’s just a rolling chassis) and pushed Ol’ Herb out of the garage
I desperately needed to do a post-Christmas clean-up of the garage , so I did that too
Then, I unboxed the pile of parts I have to see what I needed to acquire still
Then I separated them into a couple groups to better identify the needed items
I found a few things that I still need and will update my whiteboard accordingly

Jerry, of the 21 look-alike Beetles used for the original The Love Bug movie, only 1 had a Porsche engine. You can see it parked with the engine lid open in the background of a still photo (production notes?) of the official DVD. I think that actual vehicle survived, and is now in England. IIRC it was featured in a VolksWorld magazine article about 10 years ago.
If we assume the 356 engine in that Herbie was stock, it was rated at approx. 95 hp. The OP's dual-port 1835 can easily be modified to reach that power level. |

Thanks guys
I wish I had 356 money lol
Since I dont, the 1835 is a good option
You are correct . The #2 car (with 356) is indeed in England
Many of the original cars are still around too _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1

PROGRESS!
I replaced both axle boots today
Passenger was torn
Driver side wasn’t, but it would be stupid not to do both
The new dual carbs arrived yesterday.
And since the 1835 is already in the stand, I started the mock-up to see how it all fits together (or doesn’t lol)

I continued test fitting parts
Today was the alternator and the linkage
I also disassembled it all and trimmed the aftermarket tins and shroud. You can’t see it in the pics, but it has to be done
I also started on the front disc conversion
I say started, because I realized that my link pin bushings are wasted and I had to order a rebuild kit
I also ordered a bunch of other stuff and need to update my dry erase board
Thanks for sticking around, I appreciate the support _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1

The boot tore because the split was installed too high, and your new boots are more likely to tear as well since you put the split in the same position as before. For maximum life of the boot with the least likelihood of a leak, the split should be positioned at roughly 9-10 o'clock or 3-2 o'clock. Your boots have the seam located at 11 and 1 o'clock. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

Everything looks great, you’re making a ton of progress!
Very cool about the new welder & cart. As with any VW project, it will get lots of use _________________ My 66’ build thread:

Make sure your gas is turned on, or regulator allowing enough gas. Also make sure you are using non flux core wire when using Argon/Co2 mix. _________________ 1963 Ragtop Bug |

I trimmed the panel to fit
Spot welded the spot welds
Butt welded the seam
And then used the grinder for a few hours lol
I have a couple holes to fill and a little more grinding
I’m no Burlyhammer , but overall, I’m quite pleased
