I've got my hands on a non-functional ECU, and I'm trying to figure out how to fix it, are there schematics available for the board itself?
The computer itself presents at least two issues:
-Fuel pum is always on
-No signal from TPS detected
The vagcom scanner is able to communicate with it.
What can cause it to trigger the pump on all the time? (Running diagnostics turns the pump on and off as it should.
Also, a mexi arrived at a friend's shop with other unusual symptoms (and ecu problems, apparently): when the engine is shut off the battery and oil light stay dimly lit, and the IAC has a very acute noise. As soon as you disconnect it (or any IAC, really, I tested two extra ones), lights go off.
NTC2 is shot (-22ºc when room temperature was near 40ºC)
TPS sends no signal to ECU (or has the same issue of the previously mentioned ECU).
Any suggestions are welcome. Finding a working unit here can be difficult, and may cost about 400 usd. _________________ 1998 Volkswagen Sedan (MexiBeetle, daily drive)

Hope you all had a great weekend.
I'm hoping to pick your brains. I have a Mexican imported classic style Beetle, left hand drive here in the UK.
Make: VW
Model: Beetle Classic Shape - Mexican Import
Year: 2003
It came with the factory immobiliswr & Alarm. When I normally start the car I hear a click behind the dashboard (fuel pump disarm?) and a click behind the seat, believe that's the immobiliser disarming. If you don't hear these two, the car will not normally disarm to start.
The current predicament the relay 80 (tried two, both doing the same) is tapping internally like crazy,.when.i turn.the key.
Anyone have any ideas what it may be?
Thanks in advance.

That relay is fed through the anti theft system as you say so for me it's like a Mystery box. I'd suggest you drop a PM to users Antonio Trejo who knows how to deal with that but won't post it openly for obvious reasons. _________________ cars:

So this is how the wire connects on the plate bulb holder on a mexi bug:
at first I tought it was a common hollow rivet but on closer examination it appears that the terminal itself is pushed throug and compressed as if it were a rivet. I do have a spare holder with a different design and I was ready to use hollow rivets but I'd rather re-use this original if possible. does anyone know if this type of terminals are still available and what kind of tool is needed to fix them in place?
Edit: of course if Antonio were to have the socket in stock it would be easier... _________________ cars:

Here's a couple pics from Antonio's gallery.
It looks like he has (or had) the housing with the light and harness installed.
You can see the pins for the connector at the other end.
You should contact him, it may be worth getting the new harness. If he has to separate the housing from the light and harness and doesn't want to (for obvious reasons), I'd be interested in buying the housing portion so he could sell the whole unit. _________________ 1971 Super Beetle (past)

So I bought the new part from Antonio, however I decided to give it a try and fix my old one. took the measurement from Antonio's and used pop rivets to connect the new harness, I'm quite pleased with the result and I'll keep the spare in my stash!

in Lombardy we cannot drive around without valid reason due to CoViD-19 restrictions... _________________ cars:

I thought the restrictions in Italy were about movement between regions, not outright. Well you do have the 'Bug!'
Stay safe!
I've been travelling for work for the past 3 weeks, I should be home this weekend. The snow has been melting (there) and the weather looks like we might get some rain to wash away some of the road salt.
If so, I'll get the car out, no matter 3/22 is approaching, so I'll post a picture then.
I did pick up a shipment of spare parts from Antonio, I could post pictures of what I bought. _________________ 1971 Super Beetle (past)

all movements are restricted if one doesn't have a valid reason, and unfortunately "going out for a drive" isn't one of them. _________________ cars:

Beru for the cables, don't have the Part Number but Antonio usually has them in stock.
Plugs, NGK BP5ES-A or, if you can't find them, BP5ES.
BP5ES-A were stock on 1600i bugs before VW switched to Champion N12YC. The latter plug are IMHO of lesser build quality than the NGK.
BP5ES is the plug NGK recommends for the 1600i bug on their spec sheet as an alternative to BP5ES-A. _________________ cars:

The '-A' just means boxed with VW branding: (Not true, see below)

I think that guy knows what he is talking about
I stand corrected, I have a couple sets of VW branded '-A' as spares, the last time I changed plugs I used BP5ES, no difference that I could tell.
Here's a spec sheet for NGK. It looks like the '-A' may be documented here as the Firing End Construction - Special Design, but not clearly shown as a suffix on the spec.

My son just bought a 1984 Mexican Beetle. Sorry if this is a stupid question, neither he nor I are very mechanical (yet), but how do you get parts for this year model? When I look for parts (e.g., jbugs.com), 1984 isn't even an option.
Thanks in advance for some direction. |
