So the real interesting question for me is how did that happen?

It’s weird the hole is too big, but had that factory seal in it. I can’t find that seals dimensions listed anywhere to make sure it’s the typical one.

Rolling Eyes
Specification is 90.00-90.05mm
According the the bently factory service manual, or without guesswork manual
See here
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/1971withoutguesswork/6_7.jpg

The box the seal cam in says 90mm, so, at least we identified the problem based on the availible information.
If samba members can effectively measure a hole accurately is..... always suspect IMO. Nothing personal. Just based on experience

Ha!
I measured the hole. And then when reading your post Glen, I wondered if I had the case bolts all tight? Went and checked, and of course the case bolts were NOT all tight. When tightened down, the seal bore measures dead 90.
Cliff, it's Seth. Could your case bolts at the main be loose?
I know its hard to imagine that the case bolts could be loose enough that the seal slips in, without the engine pissing oil and rattling. But, it's a weird problem so best to check EVERYTHING, right?

The VW seal that I removed was nice and tight and measured 90.6mm
Part number 113-105-245-2
SABO O 1927 BR

The Erlin is 90.2mm

The felpro is 90.2mm

And the factory hole in the block is 90.3mm

Any thoughts? I appreciate any info in advance.

For some reason the hole in your block is larger than standard.

You really need the SABO seal.

The dimensions of the SABO seal 01927BR (part number 113-105-245-2) are 70 x 90.5 x 10
Try to find a supplier of SABO seals or contact https://www.sabo.com.br/en/

Still available according to the SABO catalog 2019.

Thank all of you for the feedback, the time you took to send links and share info. It’s very appreciated.

Seth, it wouldn’t hurt to check. I can also measure top to bottom to see if that number still stays true.

I will also order the seal you guys listed.

Again, it’s VERY appreciate.
