From summer, 1989: The wonderfully original Ghia then owned by Mr. Sorge from the NYC/Long Island New York area. He was the original owner. Being Italian ("I" country label on engine lid) he was immediately smitten with the Ghia's lovely styling when he saw one in a New York VW dealer showroom. I remember him telling me how the dealer salesman explained that it would take several months to receive a new one due to high demand/low supply. Accessory Hurst bumper protection bars were fitted soon after he purchased the Ghia. The event was at the Donaldsons VW Octoberfest in Sayville, Long Island to which I drove my L87 pearl white '64 Ghia cabrio. Note the other brands on the dealer sign that are long gone from the US market- Sterling and Peugeot. The VW dealer still exists.

What's the story on the rear wheels, specifically the tiny VW hub caps?
Or is this some weird light reflection phenomenon?

Yes it the deep dish of the rear wheel casting most of the hubcap in shadow.

I like the "Ram Air" cooling system! I wonder if this Ghia goes so fast he needs constant air flow to cool the breaks, or he has some built in tubing that cools the heads!!

We dated in high school in my first car. A '58 cabriolet. Next year we celebrate our 50 year anniversary. That will be a great time to post an updated image of Connie sitting just like this in our current '58 cabriolet.

Took some pictures of my friend Nick's '56 Ohrasa Lowlight yesterday in Rockstone Place, Southampton. As you can see the Ghia's colour is...grey and white. Wink

Alright it's Trout Blue with an off-white roof.

....another from Friday's photoshoot of Nick's '56.

The archway is West Gate, Southampton. King Henry V led his army through this gate to board ships for the Battle of Agincourt in 1415...Laurence Olivier however took a flight from Heathrow. Wink

This car was originally sold in San Diego, made its way to Belgium and now at my home in Mississippi. My first car was a yellow 72 KG coupe. I looked around for a 59', my birth year, but found this 58' that was exactly what I wanted. So much fun to own and drive.
