|
|
I found this kit on ebay.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Underdash-Air-C...3913!US!-1
I called them up and they appear to have all of the parts. Where can I get the bracket to hold the evaporator, and mounting for the compressor.
Anyone is the SW Florida area that would install this. Have a 70 Ghia with twin Carbs.
Thanks |

Good luck finding a place to put that condenser.
That kit is far from complete, it doesn't have all of the parts to make it fit your car. You can probably add another $1,500- $2,500 for a shop to route & fab everything to make it work. I can guarantee you that there isn't enough hose to make the loop necessary to run that thing & I sure as hell wouldn't expect hose clamps to withstand the head pressures on the high side. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I don't think you would be happy with that ebay kit. Its not really designed for a Ghia.
I installed the Gilmore kit in my last Ghia. I found the kit to be well made and the instructions were good. I had never installed an AC system and had no problem doing this. The system worked well.
The only things I needed to do after the install was to have it charged by my local garage. _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |

I saw that. They were in FL when I dealt with them. _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |

They moved from Florida to Vegas. I had looked for them when I bought my AC for my bug, then found out they were in Vegas. Great system, works nice
fantastic to deal with. |

Yeah. No bracket or pulley or belt.
Still some work to be done.
There are things I like about the Gilmore kit but I like the ICE kit best. _________________ Volkswagen!

Sadly, I still have an "original" Compressor stand from the AC that was on mine when I bought it. No Bueno for the newer compressors. _________________ Volkswagen!

Gilmore supply UAC compressors right now. And they have changed hands, Ed is still involved but not the main guy now. They do still have great customer service and you will get everything you need.
Personally I want an evaporator made for the car and that means used or via http://iceautoair.com/index.html.
Interesting that the eBay pic shows the late Mexican Beetle with Fuel Injection. I believe they had their own compressor mounting bracket. Maybe Antonio will be able to supply some components for you:

Does anyone know if the Gilmore under dash unit can be converted to RHD? _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

I had a look at the advertisement linked on the Samba. It also show a Mexican EFI set up and with the AC compressor added. I'm amazed at the tight fit of all that machiner in the engine compartment. It would be a challenge setting the timing with all those spinning pulleys and moving belts. Certainly no loose clothing near any of that.

Agree - but the timing on the Digifant EFI is controlled entirely by the ECU. You need to use a VAG-COM connector and associated software! Good thing with FI is that you'll need to spend less time tuning things! _________________ |

Darn shame about that condenser in the rear luggage area...
