Wow... it's been a year now
Very little progress during this time, but I will not complain... my family is healthy and we are dealing with these crazy times as good as we can.
I bought a small mill to support me in my projects... well the machine turned into a project by itself
Tranny is back from the builder and the pan back from welding. I am happy with the welds. The bulkhead turns out to be very solid now. I will share some pics below:
I bought CSP vented brakes with wide 5:
Was first worried, that they may not fit with my up-side-down steering knuckles idea... So I reamed them to fit the offset Golf/Rabbit knuckles and tried it out - and got lucky! Everything still works well.
I could not find a reamer with the correct taper so a good friend made me one from on old tap Thank you!!!
Finally I fulfilled myself a long time dream and bought throttle bodies that look like carburators with hidden injectors and sensor. I have been in contact with Jenvey on this for years. When they finally introduced them, I could not resist
Now I am waiting for warmer weather to get going on the chassis again.
Cheers and stay healthy!

Those look really cool. So they are set up to look like and mount like a regular Weber IDF but are actually fuel injectors? Interesting.

I like the way you have stiffened the Mendeola front frame, I am just starting to make some pieces for mine.
The issue seems to be the possibility of the the upper arm mounts might move forward or back relative to the lower arm mounts.
I see you have triangulated with the square tube and created box sections between the front 2 plates.
Is there any more we can't see in the photos?
your work keeps me thinking about how to improve these cars. "thumbs up" |

Lars, are they the bushings that came with the arms (urethane), or are they new? Delrin?
I do like the grease idea
Another thing I noticed looking back at you photos.....
The wheel studs in the CSP disks, they look like screw in?
If so, I think press in studs are much safer, particularly in alloy, something to think about? |

Hi Ian, these are the bushings that came with the set. I think there is nothing wrong with them. If anything comes up it will be easy to replace them.
For the studs, yes they are screw in with Loctide. I suppose there is not enough room for press from the rear side. They are approved by an German inspection body, so I will not mess, with them
Rear CSP's I will have to replace the bracket for the calipers, as it does not fit the Mendeola trailing arm
Cheers

I got done withe the most frustrating work on my project yet...
To fit the CSP rear brakes to the Mendeola arms, I choose to have the caliper brackets welded to the arms. The paint on the trailing arms had been damaged during transport, so I had to repaint them anyhow...
No big deal - so I thought
Until I found out, that no paint remover or chemical bath or sandblasting would remove the plastic dip on it
I spent endless hours to chip the plastic off, using cutters and chissels. Got done!!!
BUT!! to color match the fronts, I probably have to get them re painted as well _________________ Stealth Ghia Transformation: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7226044&highlight=#7226044
