I guess I'm being contentious with Everett, but why not have a thread on the Eurovan forum about this unit? It's more like a later model Eurovan than a Vanagon. https://www.mbvans.com/sprinter/weekender

It's obviously a continuation of the '03 Eurovan Weekender but with a Mercedes badge. I could be interested in a used one down the road when the NLA parts for the Eurovan begin to be a problem, and rebuilding costs.

I paid 30k in 2002 for my T4 weekender, and would gladly pay 60k today for the Same and finish and updated features. Have to have 5000 tow capacity though.

Electric isnít going to do it for me. Price premium and once the electric road tax hits, the upfront cap cost will make it too expensive.

Ok, so I've looked into Class B poptops other than VW and the Metris. I've been looking because the OEM VW parts support is shaky, particularly with US-spec emissions parts.

Domestic brands have great appeal for parts support.

Here are the domestic custom options I know of, all of them gonna be about $35k over the initial cost of the van for a full-amenity conversion like an EVC. Metris poptop looks like it will be about $35k over the base model.

- Sportsmobile poptop. Sportsmobile will customize any van to a poptop/hightop. The used ones I see are based on a Ford Econoline van. Some are 4WD, some diesel, some V8, nice amenities (furnace, stove, sink, water, etc). Pricey used.

- Pleasure-Way Traverse poptop. Sort of interesting. The original Traverse model was a Ford Econoline RWD van, nice amenities. Not sure how it would do offroad being heavy and RWD. Has molded fiberglass sidesteps, could wreck those going through a washout.

- Pleasure-Way Tofino poptop. New to their lineup. Based on a FWD Dodge Ram ProMaster LWB van. Nice amenities (furnace, sink, 1-burner stove, water). Sort of cheap, $70k base price brand new. I notice the LP tank fill port hangs unprotected under the sidestep on the passenger side. Not good. Spec'ing the ProMaster it has 6.9" stock ground clearance. Adequate, maybe it can be lifted.

- GTRV Poptop. Like Sportsmobile, GTRV will poptop customize any van you choose. They're professionals, like Sportsmobile

I'd like to see some AWD Class B van conversions. Toyota Sienna and the new Ford Transit are the only AWD vans available right now.

Maybe the Metris Weekender will spur Toyota and Ford to offer a dealership poptop build. Probably not.

The small poptop van niche is just that, a small niche.
