Can anyone tell me if standard beetle parts (the grey parts instead of chromed ones) were anodised grey or if they were painted?

The vent window frames and division bars on this 67 1200A were painted silver as were the front head light rings and inner door and window crank handles...

Thanks! I’d like to redo mine... good to know they’re not anodised - painting is much easier to sort!

The parts are painted L-328 steel gray on most of the parts.
The parts that are painted "body color" were the front turn signal housings, the door vent wing frames and guide.
The driver only visor/mirror bracket is painted black.
Also note that the bumpers are painted steel gray along with their bumper brackets- on a deluxe model the bumper brackets are painted L-91 silver, and on the Euro 1200 Custom the bumpers are chrome, but the inside of the blade cove are L-328 steel gray and the bumper brackets too.

BTW L-328 cannot be bought ready made up. I had to bring a friends inside door handles to finally get a match up and it took three tries to match. At least I have a paint code.

Also you should know that the 1200 Custom is still considered a standard model or a Type 111. 1200 customs have body side molding and in the early years of this model the body side molding was painted L-328 steel gray, later at least by 63 they were anodized brightwork just like deluxe models. 1200 Customs in Europe have painted front turn signal housings, but in Canada they are chrome. In Europe unless asked for, a 1200 Custom gets a deluxe chrome blade with small over rider just like a deluxe, but can like the deluxe be ordered with chrome towel rack bumpers like a U.S. export deluxe. Canada 1200 Customs get towel rack bumpers standard because Canada as well as the U.S had a bumper height requirement.
That's why my European 1200Custom has towel rack bumpers-the original owner who I bought the car from said he had to order it that way so he could clear U.S. customs inspection.
FYI A "1965" European 1200"A" and a European 1200"A" Custom are the last VW's to use the 36HP engine and a Canadian 1200"A" Custom uses the 40HP engine.

I had it matched and made when I was living on the central coast about 8-9 years ago, however it was a code that the paint shop gave me using various epoxy paints they blended after several tries to get a match. In other words their own code should I ever need to go back to them for more. I still have about a quart of it left over, and with reduction before shooting gives me about 3/4 of a gallon.
