Happy to hear that your ABA conversion still is going strong Neil!
I haven't had time to continue on my ABA block rebuid, but.... Guess what! Got my hands on a VW new beetle for the wife it's a 1.8T AWP transversally mounted 119k miles runs great! Manual Transmission at 880 dollars!!! Im starting my studies in this conversion I'm going to start digging but there's not much information. will see... I emailed Stephan at h20vanagon but there's no information or resources there. Only conversions parts for sale that by the way I totally understand and respect their business. I will start a thread on it to see if it has been done. _________________ Roger

Thanks Roger and congrats.
Searching "AWP" here in all forums gets a fair amount of search results. i.e. there may be relevant AWP info in other samba forums?
Someday I may "graduate" to a turbo but I'm finding the ABA power is adequate. And now it's nice that I can wind the engine out to 5K rpm and not worry about it cutting out. (most likely cause: water getting in intake, soaking air filter). I thought maybe a lack of VSS was causing this or some obstruction in the fuel delivery system. e.g. fuel tank filters. I highly doubt thats the case.
Honestly though, the ABA is an old engine. I can still easily get parts for it but having a newer engine platform can't hurt in that regard.
