How about this:

The first pattern looks good. Cheap enough to order a piece to check at least...
The original mats are formed though. Maybe with a heat gun you could stretch them a bit in the right places.

$70.33 Per Sheet, cheap? It does look good though and might be worth it if it forms correctly.

Ooops, I was looking at the felt padding price.

$70 could be cheap to some people. Razz

Finally made my own solution...and it looks perfect. I will try to post better pics later.

I sprayed in Rhino truck bed liner and it looks totally legit. It looks just like the real thing and is way stronger!

Looks good in that photo. Better photos would be cool too.

Great tips, guys. I went to Autozone and bought a 16 oz can of the 3M Professional Rubberized Undercoating. Was easily able to coat the bulkhead area with one can; in fact, I applied three fairly heavy coats.
Will paint it in the next few days with my almost perfect match platinum paint and will post a few photos.

Id recommend glycerine rather than srpray painting. It extends its life as well as bringing back the colour. Paint is just a cover up until the mat crumbles away.

I'll second that tip. It's good for your hands too.

I think it gave the passengers a 'little more toe room'... The indents may be structural so that it wasn't a flat area on each side that would have popped in and out like the sides of the bus do...

Updating this thread since this is the one in the Bus FAQ:

From another thread, ISPWest sells this material. Ad:

That is awesome. They are going to sell the sh!t out of those at $40 a pop. The picture shows the later style bulkhead where the spare tire pressing comes down into the toe kick area. I wonder if the material is soft to allow for fitting into an earlier bulkhead.

If no one chimes in I will let you know. I bought one to try to fit into my 61.

I recently installed the ISP reproduction in an earlier bulhead. I used a steamer to make the rubber more plyable and easier to work with. Worked great.

Okay, I know this is an old thread, but I've dug it up through the search and frequently asked questions.

I purchased the walk-thru rubber kick wrap around from WW. It's near the right shape, leaving some room for trimming to fit.
My problems ( and I'm having loads of similar issue like this situation ) is, does the vinyl seat back wrap go on first, then the rubber kick trim piece and rubber kick, and finally the seat back panel?
It's been 8 years since hurriedly ripped out the interior.

Thanks for any help in the order of events interior wise.

Gordo.

Vinyl, panels, trim, rubber last - that’s for walk through. You are posting in the bulkhead thread, and to avoid confusion for someone reading later, bench buses have a different assembly pattern.

Thanks for that, and sorry, don't want to confuse people, but I was following Everett's lead:

So the metal trim for the rubber also holds down the seat-back panel on a walk-thru?

Gordo.

ps. is it still considered "Hijacking a thread" if it's a really old thread?

Yes, the interior panel should have a tail which tucks under.

My rubber kick panel started falling apart so I decided to replace it. I found some excellent material and proceeded to dismantle my drink tray partition and kick panel.

Here are some photos to show the process:

This photo shows the old original panel.

Here it is, removed from the partition wall.

You can see the aluminum channel that holds the bottom of the drink tray and two side panels.

After removing the old rubber, I marked the wall above the holes that the pop rivets go through that attach the aluminum channel to the bulkhead.

I used 3m 90 as my spray adhesive, taping off the areas around the wall that needed to be protected. I sprayed both the wall and the rubber twice, and I cut the rubber extra long on both ends. I would trim the ends later. Rather than try to stretch the rubber into the recesses, I attached it first at the bottom and then slowly rolled it from bottom to top and then out to the sides.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I cut out small holes in the rubber so the rivet would fit easily.

Here's one of the new rivets in the new rubber. The new rubber is twice as thick as the old material, but since it was laying out in the sun while the adhesive dried, and with the use of a heat gun, it was pretty easy to work it into all the recesses.

Here is the aluminum channel installed with 1/8" pop rivets.

I used 1/8" pop rivets, shot in from the front seat to attach the drink tray.

The three panels are installed, with the two side panels pop riveted with 3/16" aluminum rivets.

Middle seat back in and we're back on the road.
