Greetings! Hunterdon County, NJ here. Another one of us lives in Lambertville, along with at least one other person (who I don't know).

We'll have to consider some sort of get-together in the future.

with the end of the world and all happening, what better time to work on the Westy?

ok, wow. that looks different.

it's not paint and goes on different than paint. it will run REALLY easily if you are heavy handed (like me).

came out super nice, and the clean look really makes the inside "airy" and not so dingy feeling. and the smell of death has been replaced with "clean" aerosol propellant smell Smile

yeah, this looks awesome!

more to come, i need to go find some TP for my bunghole!

Nah! Here on the East coast poison ivy grows really big! That's what real men use when out in the wilds!
Maybe skunk cabbage leaves? They're HUGE!

between the rainy days and the anxiety of working from home, i have made an incredible amount of progress...

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

this was the starting point...

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

nice to get some free spare relays!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

need to clean up the metal and hit with the rust converter and a top coat of paint. this dust is everywhere. lots of dirt road driving i suspect.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

the three looms are for fog lights, sensor on spark plug wire #1, and i think going to the starter. need to wait until the ground is not muddy to investigate further.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

the remote start had wires spliced in that i cut and need to heat shrink the tails. several wires were spliced into the headlight switch, not a headlight relay upgrade, i believe these were from the alarm to flash the lights.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

professional fog light install.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

much better looking. the fog light brackets will be removed at some point, no hurry.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

much better. the wire hanging down on the far right goes into the head liner for an alarm sensor. i need to drop the head liner to remove it, not something i was planning on doing...

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

four alarm sirens removed, two from under the bus, two within the dash. lots of wires for the alarm that simply pulled right out. i'm going to repurpose the longer wire pairs to use as power to the rear for lighting and USB ports from the house battery i'm going to install under the driver's seat.

the rear hatch card is rather broken. i know, let's fix it with duct tape! the card is past it and i'll order a replacement at some future point.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

the three wires running from the front along the A/C lines to the rear have been traced. a pair go to the #1 spark plug wire for the remote starter. the other was i believe for the rear hatch, it was cut and laying loose in top of the 3/4 head.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

long wires are long.

major progress made on not having to use a screwdriver or remote trigger on the starter to crank the engine. i can now do it from the ignition switch like a normal person.

i could not get it to start, just crank. i think my JumpNCarry needs charged. i'll see what happens after a charge up.

yesterday i worked on being able to start the Westy's engine using the ignition switch.

i was able to get the starter solenoid to engage and the engine to crank. it would not start. after far more time than is not embarrassing i realized the issue...

the ECU was in the garage with everything else i removed. Embarassed

with the ECU connected, the engine now starts easily from the ignition switch using the key, like a normal person starts their normal boring car.

You might want to use some kind of sound proofing under there. I used the Dyna pad in my last van and it really helped with the sound. I also ran my plywood length wise with two pieces to get full coverage and I could also remove the main floor without having to remove the seat. Oh that's right , you have the kitchen to put in so maybe that wouldn't matter to you. Your vans coming along nice, good work!

I have the same rig, which I think is part of an aftermarket cruise control. Mine has never worked and I have not been interested in fixing it, but have kept the pieces intact. I did set this aside during my work on the tuneup with new plug wires earlier this year.

i'll have it overlap the wall sides so i can get it tight against the edges. i think it's going to look great once it's in place.

as promised many pages ago, i would detail the issues i had with the skylight kit i purchased from BusDepot (which is the GoWesty kit it seems).

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

the left is the OE bracket, the right is the kit bracket. the center slot is not correct in the kit.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

these two photos show that the notch is not the correct size to accept the arm mechanism

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

the bracket that attaches to the skylight is too large and this causes an issue with closing the skylight

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

the bracket is hitting the gasket and will not allow the skylight to fully close.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

i used the OE brackets with the rest of the kit to get it installed.

been keeping at the Westy between the cold rain and high winds we had.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

put a few coats of poly on the bottom and about 4-5 inches around the top edges to keep any water that gets under the plywood from being wicked up.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

the under cabinet flooring received several coats of poly on both sides.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

a final tweaking of the fit and the subfloor is ready.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

the new vinyl mat is cut and ready to be installed

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

the OEM is on the left, the Amazon special on the right. a little darker would have been nice but i did not want black.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

the mat is in place. i used a double sided tape product meant for vinyl mat flooring. i ran tape along all edges and then at intervals across the middle. it "can" be removed in the future if the mat needs replaced.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

i decided to eliminate the rear heater and for the wiring bundle, i simply cut a slit in the vinyl to pass the wires thru. i can tuck them back under once the bench seat is installed. i trimmed the areas for the floor mounts trying to keep the holes as small as possible to keep things from finding their way under the floor

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

i bought a bench grinder and installed a wire wheel. the metal trim piece was cleaned and now needs a few coats of paint. the plastic lip protector will be replaced.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

it's starting to look like a camper again!

the pop top latch needed some love. the coating delaminated and the pitting was pretty bad. cleaned on the wire wheel and then applied convertor. once it was looking decent, i sprayed it many coats of Rustoleum enamel. the installed picture looks darker than it really is.

next up was a complete disassembly of the rear bench seat. i cleaned up the internal brackets and then sprayed the brackets and 7 carriage bolt tops with a few coats of the Rustoleum enamel. i tried to get the stains out of the fabric, but i think i'll have to get a purpose made product, my Simple Green was not able to get the heavier stains out.

it's starting to come together... the A/C cabinet is the next nice day project.
