It’s a VW Pierburg with an upright outlet. Never saw one before. What does it fit or is it just a replacement for stock?

Yes, it's for a Bus Bastard 40 hp engine.
They are sort of hard to find if you need one for a restoration

Go to the technical section of the samba and under owners manuals for 1961 page 56 you will see a upright line & hose going to the carburetor.
