Somewhat random, hypothetical question for all y'all sitting around waiting to be released.

I've got a 4 speed 2WD manual transmission. What does it take to R&R the R&P once the trans is pulled, say, if the trans never would be used, e.g. if I just wanted to replace the R&P and sell the trans as a core?

Am I correct in believing that the tranny pretty much has to come apart to get the pinion shaft? How many hours would that take? Are the bearings and gears pressed on (sorry, Ive never been inside one of these).

I know this isn't a 2WD but its the best image I could find...

Thanks.

It requires 100% disassembly.
If you were putting a trans together the pinion shaft is the first part that you pick up.

That's what I thought. Thanks. I'm looking forward to sharing pics of last year's rebuild in a week or two.

It started with this...
