has anyone setup CB CE heads with Pauter 1.4 rocker assemblies before? the new style bushed - post 2012 design.
It looks like I need shim up the rocker pads to get the geometry right and some parts of the rockers come into contact with the springs - chevy dual valve springs.
what valve covers work?
Has anyone set up the Pauters in a Comp Eliminator head? My Autocraft rockers require me to mill the rocker pads in the head and lower the studs to get the geometry right...so I am looking at new rockers. |

Which ones? The ones that go on a solid shaft with stock head location of the mounting studs? Like these? They go right on the autocraft shafts. Or are suppose to.

Yes, You will have to clearance the rocker where it is coming into contact with the spring. It isn't very much. Make sure to polish it smooth so you don't set up any stress risers. I ended up using SCAT stainless covers to on my heads, everything else I had hit.

I have done it several times.
Yes, usually with chevy springs, you have to use .100"-.200" longer valves.
So shimming the rockers up is needed.
Pauters like that anyways.
As you shim them up, the clearance requirement on the rocker becomes less.
I usually don't have to clearance the rocker at all if I have them shimmed up properly. Even on big ass Pro-Stock 910 heads can be setup with Pauters w/o any clearance needed.
The roller tips make having the geometry exactly perfect less critical.
Also, it is really hard to visualize what proper geometry looks like with Pauters.
I go by kiss pattern of the roller on the valve tip.
Zero lift and full lift, the roller should be kissing the same place on the valve tip. |

Pauter's instructions on their site state not to grind on the rockers for clearance. You clearance the retainers on a lathe till the rockers clear. The retainers can be up to 1mm smaller than the spring O.D. and still work fine. If that fails, then you shim minimally to get it to clear. I've done this work before btw. _________________ "A petrol engine can start readily, run smoothly and give every appearance of being in good order, without necessarily being in good tune." - Colin Campbell, "The Sportscar Engine" |

As for the Autocraft ones, they want narrower rocker mounts on the head. Idk why they made them like that...
I cut the rocker studs down on the shoulders with a lathe because that step inside the rocker blocks wouldn't let them sit down all the way. _________________ "A petrol engine can start readily, run smoothly and give every appearance of being in good order, without necessarily being in good tune." - Colin Campbell, "The Sportscar Engine" |
