So where are you getting your data to suggest the rates are now flat?

YOu have never heard of 'flattening the curve' of infection? WE are in the middle of it now w/ the lockdown. YOu need to be spoon-fed all the time? Keep up -do some reading.

So who told you that VA is "in the middle" of the curve?

The country hasn't even seen its peak yet....what makes you think Virginia is ahead of the rest of the country regarding incident rates?

“20% of the infected will need to go on a respirator, 70%-86% of those that do, will die.”

Slight math error based on the mortality rate there. If 70-86% of 20% died, then the overall death rate would be 14-17.2% of all those that are infected. Even the worst rate shown in the world is only about one fifth that rate.

Yeah, generally we up here in the North aren't looking with much compassion at the shotgun, ineffective and random approach taken by Florida for dealing with this virus.

Now you demonstrate hate and fear at a cruise ship with sick Americans on board!
I know the Coast Guard resolved this but......

If it wasn't so tragic Florida's actions would actually be funny.

That is not true. According to the Federal Coinage Act any Merchant must accept any amount of coins as legal tender.

Read the Federal Coinage Act of 1873. If some jackass pays his debt with a big bag full of US coins you must by law accept them.

Gee - I am late to a 35 page party. That is what happens when you retire - if your heart doesn't get you a virus will. If you get past both some 29 year old will clean your bank account out because you want to really believe 29 year olds care about 70 year olds. So.......... is everyone Ok? Anyone need something that can be legally sent thru the postal service? I've noticed some bickering. Someone get their whang caught in a mouse trap? By the way they are out of Swiss and Provolone here. Lots of Parmesan and Blue cheese though. You doing Ok EB? Skills? Mark?

I thought randayn was going to retire from The Samba about 20 pages ago? Or maybe that was another thread?

I have to admit that deep within this dumpster fire, there’s actually some good discussion. It goes through all the emotions though. Everyone gets along for 3 pages, and then the switch flips. We laugh. We cry. We yell. Too bad it’s such a disaster to weed through the personal attacks to find the pertinent info.

I think Dad is going to pull the car over and give some ass-whoopings if the kids don’t smarten up in the back seat.

Admin Edit: I feel fresh as a daisy now, how about you all?
Let's keep the discussion going, it's actually a surprisingly good thread.

I really wish there would be more discussion about the pending financial crisis. The recession and depression that will follow will destroy more families then the virus.

Because everybody is staying home domestic violence and child abuse is up.

For all who are trying to maintain this discussion, thank you. I find that being able follow others during this time, hear what is working for them, listen to their opinions, etc has been helpful to my quarantine-compromised sanity. These are kind of crazy times... best wishes to you and thanks again.

Dave,

I agree, but first we need to get control of the virus.

I remember last year when the government shut down there was some number out there that a huge percentage of the families can't afford a unexpected $500 expense. While I always lived my life below my means, I do know many that spend it as fast as they get it.

I don't feel sorry for those making a nice living, spending like a rich family. I do feel for the people that are scratching by on minimum wage.

While i'm NOT a socialist, I think this country is wealthy enough to help those that are barely getting by. And i'm not talking about lazy freeloaders.

I've heard that there are talks for huge infrastructure projects to put people back to work and to upgrade out long overlooked highways both physical and electronic.

This pandemic points out all the risk we ignored by letting critical industries be outsourced. Come on, we're buying medical equipment and pharmaceuticals from China.

We need to end the buying from the cheapest and buying American.

------------------------------------------------------------

I hope this is not viewed as political, I don't care which party is in control and I pick no sides.
