Hi guys, I just picked up a set of NOS handles for my 64 Beetle. Shown here are my drivers-side handle (has the lock)
The mechanism is totally different and it doesn't seem to trigger the door. Is anyone familiar with whats going on? Are there different types of handles?
The bottom one is what was on my car previously - it is totally different.

What door latches are in your door? Im doing a 56 beetle and the door latches aren't the right kind. _________________ If you can't dazzle them with your brilliance, baffle them with your bullsh*t.
56 Beetle - Wilbur. I found a lot of lipstick on this pig so far.
63 Beetle - Luna
66 13 window Bus - Tetanus
71 Bay Window - Lola. Totaled. |

There was a mid year switch on the door handles in 64. They went from the earlier style to the paddle style you have on the bottom. Some websites do not acknowledge this change and list the compatible years incorrectly.
Also, the ones on the top don't appear to be NOS. They look like reproductions. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

Darn it, I bought these from Aircooled Museum and was really excited to get them on the car. They are definitely different, it's almost like they have a stainless steel "jacket" around them. I didn't know there was a mid year change.
I really want to keep one key for my car, but the new handles offered by WW don't accept my SU key profile or I would have had those rekeyed.
Hopefully I can return these and find a really nice set to use on my car. _________________ Mike

Do your inside handles presently open the door or do you have to reach through the window to open the door? I can't get my early '64 doors open from the inside but can lock them (so the rod is attached). |
