|
|
Back in 2008 I got a set of external decals (stickers if you prefer) from DecalsOnly in Victoria BC. They have lasted perfectly for the 12 years since, but now need to replace some due to a repaint. So tried to find Decals Only again.
Sadly all my searches found only dead links to them. The original envelope I got from DecalsOnly back in 2008 was from D. St. Germain in Victoria BC. I found an old link on a VW Diesel site listing a "DonandRobin" as the username for DecalsOnly but, again it no longer works.
Anyone know how to get the set of external decals for Canada - it includes the round Canadian RV decal on the drivers' side below the door dog-leg, and bi-lingual label for the fuel filler.
I think GoWesty or VanCafe do not sell the correct ones - if any at all now.
Thanks.

Have a look at Dr. Bjorn's Auto (https://vanagonwestfaliaparts.com). If you search for "decal" on their site, a listing for "Original Westy Decals" comes up. Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but it's a a start. _________________ 1988 Tintop Wolfsburg Special Edition - "Meatloaf"

Hi,
You can try calling the local Victoria shops that deal with Vanagons:
Beetle Auto Service
Ellice Auto
AutoSpiel

Thanks Christoph - I didn't see any search function on their page, so wrote to them - waiting for a reply.
Thanks VicVan - if I don't get results from Bjorn's, I will try those links. _________________ '88 VW Westfalia

I know the owners of DecalsOnly. They are now operating Total Composites a Camper expedition body supply business. I will ask Kate if they sold the decal business to anyone. |

I searched that site but must've been using incorrect search terms; didn't see that page. Thanks for finding, posting that.
Would the OP be able to take a pic of the round sticker at driver door, upload it to a sticker making website?
Neil.
round sticker on my '88 Westy. I now see that there's a reg or serial number of some kind. IIRC, the same sticker on my '81 Westy may be different?

Thank you VanagonNut! I just got a reply from DrBjorn stating he is in contact with the owners of DecalsOnly to buy their files! He had some of the other decals, but not the round one.
This is my reproduction from DecalsOnly 12 years ago! It's rather scratched up and painted on the edge.

I notice your decal must be original due to the number stamped on it. And it is red - whereas mine is a reproduction and is white, without any numbers. Also looks like your decal has been taped over and repainted around too.
I found a photo in the gallery posted by simonslp on Nov 10, 2011 showing the whole package of decals, including the Canadian one. Anyone know of him, or where he got the package?
Looks like we may get some decals again _________________ '88 VW Westfalia

Still looking for the lower body decals for a Westfalia - Canadian.
Had a reply from Dr.Bjorn, but they still do not have the round RV Canadian decal, and do not seem to be getting them.
Does anyone have a source for these decals? _________________ '88 VW Westfalia

Thanks for the idea Steve. Unfortunately the RV (and the utility decals, actually) are printed decals rather than cutout decals.
My wife has the equivalent Brother cutter, and I did use it to make a "Powered Pop Top Lift" for the pop top. Fantastic machine for cutting vinyl.
So, I may have to create a file and take it to a local decal maker. (Then sell them back to the original suppliers ) _________________ '88 VW Westfalia

Do a search for making decals because there are other methods where you play mad scientist and make liquid to use pictures too make decals. Used to do that for model airplanes. Gotta have your Bomber Art! _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

May have a source for getting that round Canadian RV decal made in Calgary. I've made the artwork. Based on the reporduction I bought 12 years ago, I think they are medium grey on aluminum foil.
See the photo above in this thread.
Problem is I'll have to get a lot made to cover their minimum charge.
So, how many Canadians need a new decal? What would it be worth to you? _________________ '88 VW Westfalia

Hi, If it helps, I'll take one. I don't need one right now, but maybe when I repaint the van 10 years from now. _________________ '90 Little Blue Truck, 2WD auto, FAS GenV 2.0 NA (AVH) |

I edited the original post to reflect the reason for hunting this Canadian CSA decal. There is more to it than just wanting my van to look original after a repaint.
Here is one link explaining the provinces' requirements for the CSA certification:
https://www.rvia.org/system/files/media/file/3%20Edition%206%20Canada%20Standards%20Charts.pdf
And even stranger, here is one particularly for BC residents:
Quote: |
Used recreational vehicles
Used recreational vehicles may only be offered for sale in the Province of British Columbia without re-inspection provided that they bear recognized certification label and provided that the wiring has not been altered.
Used recreational vehicles that do not have a recognized certification label, and used recreational vehicles that have had the wiring altered, must be evaluated and approved by an inspection body that is recognized by the Standards Council of Canada. |
That paragraph is taken from this link:
https://www.technicalsafetybc.ca/alerts/information-bulletin-recreational-vehicles
So this makes me wonder - how many used RVs (meaning Westfalias) actually are required to submit to this piece of legislation? _________________ '88 VW Westfalia
