|
|
I was able to very briefly start my engine by spraying gas into the carburetor directly. But I want (and need) to run it longer, and need longer supply of gas.
Can I hook gas (small tank and hose) directly to the carburetor? Or do I need to hook up to the fuel pump first?
Thank you |

If it's higher than the carb to allow gravity feed then no pump is needed. (It's good to have a fire extinguisher handy though when doing stuff like this ... ask me how I know). _________________ 1974 Beetle. Bus/Porsche/Rover V8 (Buick 215ci) Baja. (Unfinished project)

I would connect it to the pump so you get the correct fuel pressure. _________________ Glenn

Thank you both.
Glenn - question: I have a Pierburg Fuel Pump that I rebuilt. Never used before. I was getting ready to search online about the correct hook up. Does the line go from the fuel supply to the "bottom" line and to the carb from the "top" line?

Ah found it. Gas feed (supply) goes to the lower nipple on the pump and top nipple feeds the carb. |

I needed to move my old Ford Transit to somewhere else on my land, it was missing a fuel pump so I filled the washer bottle with petrol and gravity fed it into the carb. Unfortunately while I was driving it the bottle came loose and acted like a Molotov cocktail burning out the engine bay and setting light to a lot of grass which spread like wildfire. Needless to say my casual approach to such endeavours has been modified. _________________ 1974 Beetle. Bus/Porsche/Rover V8 (Buick 215ci) Baja. (Unfinished project)
