It's actually metal bellows - and looked to be soldered to the metal tubing. That's why I suspected it is factory. No supporting info, but didn't look home done or anything, and the hose was so bad, I don't think it was new enough for Bill K to have done. Not sure, though. |
Definately not factory. I have been through probably more of these cars than anyone but a dealer tech or private VW garage in Europe. ....and its not in the books....and its not a 1974/1975 part.
But....it does not mean that it was not some kind of weird dealer option. These cars had lots of interesting options.
So.....it appears to be ....technically....a metal exhaust flex pipe bellows.....right? knowing how capable at fabricating Bill K was.....I dont doubt that its simply a metal exhaust bellows that was brazed on. How flexible is it? Ray |

I would say pretty flexible. Had like 45 degrees or so of flex. Also, just barely fit through the hole. |
Thats "sounds"...like an exhaust flex pipe. But I must admit...looking at that part someone did do a "factory" looking job.
It is possible that something like this came out at the very end like early 75-ish.
Bellows like that are not too hard to find...but they are hard to find in carbon steel instead of stainless.
Is it steel? Stainless steel? copper? Brass?
I can find them in copper and brass for fairly cheap...and that is REALLY solderable. Ray |
