|
|
I bought new bumpers for my 73 standard from Wolfsburg West. I bought new front brackets as they were out at the time of rear brackets.
I have 4 old bumpers with brackets from the PO. I thought I would remove, sand down, paint and use.
The problem is, I am not sure which is which.
In the photo, number 1 is what looks like the front bracket as next to it, number 3 is what I bought for the front bumper from WW.
Number 2 bracket looks different, so I am assuming that might be the rear?
Also, one added on question, attached to the #1 bracket, is some sort of long frame that is attached to the bumper and brackets. I'm thinking a rear impact reinforcement?
Any ideas on brackets?
Thank you,
Mark

Bracket 2 is attached to a rear bumper blade, so pretty safe to say that's for the rear. Easy way to tell the blades apart is the rear has a more pronounced curve to it than the front. Brackets 1 and 3 look to be front brackets. You're correct that the long piece is a bumper impact reinforcement, it'll be for whichever end it fits into the appropriate bumper blade. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

The bumper impact reinforcement started in 1973 and it is on the front only, Never saw the bumper impact reinforcement on the rear, that is not to say that VW never did that on the rear.
There also in the 73 a bracket that goes from the mount to the front axle beam.
Tried to find it on an exploded view with not luck.
